The interim police chief in the nation’s capital is declining to address details of a 235-person mass arrest Friday during President Donald Trump's inauguration as it becomes clear that some journalists were booked alongside activists.
So far, seven journalists have been identified as being among the 230 adults charged with felony rioting, which carries a maximum 10 years in prison and a large fine.
Peter Newsham told U.S. News he could not confirm that he ordered the mass arrest and said that he could not comment on why some journalists were charged while at least four others were allowed to leave a large penned-in group.
“There were no, in my opinion, arrests of any demonstrators or protesters,” Newsham says. “The people who were arrested on Friday were rioters and they were charged."

The journalist might get a pass, but the lawyer who got pepper-sprayed should be convicted and disbarred.

The rioters were boxed in, so I could give the journalist a pass in that he might have been caught up in the arrests, but the mouthy lawyer, featured on a thread a couple of days ago, definitely deserves to be convicted and disbarred.

Actually, Mayor Bowser got nervous enough to unleash the cops on anyone committing assault or destroying property. Of course, that was after Starbucks and BofA and the limo were trashed.
That’s when all those rioters got busted, not after assaults on Trump supporters trying to get to the inauguration.

What are you talking about? When did the DC Mayor tell her police to stand down?
“Her” police arrested more than 200 rioters. They left the protesters alone. I saw her interview and she was clearly furious at the rioters attacking “her” police, 6 of whom at that point were sent to the hospital, and creating chaos in the business district, breaking windows, burning the limousine. I never saw or heard of her telling MPD to stand down.
It was the Chief of Police that said that, but the story I read said it was the Mayor, later when I re read the story from another source it said the Chief of Police...I forgot to correct that, and thank you for doing that!!!
