Was it George H. W. Bush who granted China “most favored” nation status?
China makes NOTHING that is not also manufactured by US companies. It’s just a matter of scale.
And I would require a citation on the GM numbers to believe it. They sell more than 7mil annually here. Not including Europe.
Do we destroy those islands or collapse their economy?
One thing we should do is build up Taiwan and Japan.
100 Pershing II’s in Japan should do it.
I don’t know. I know one of the past Presidents made it ‘permanent’ which should never have been done.
Some for the ROC also.
Some for the ROC also.
The US Navy has been doing this for 60 years. It’s unremarkable.
Of course, China is free to make deals with other countries about islands that have multiple/competing claims.
Here is a citation for you: Milestone: China Now General Motors' Biggest Market
To your other point: "China makes NOTHING that is not also manufactured by US companies." That might be true, if you qualify it to say: China makes NOTHING that is not also manufactured by US companies in factories in China. Here is an example: Apple. They are wholly reliant on factories in China to make the iPhone, and Macs. There are currently no US factories that could provide the complete set of components and assembly needed.
The situation is dire, we have offshored critical manufacturing infrastructure to our primary enemy in the world. Washington, Wall Street, and Silicon Valley have sold out the country. We need to carefully and quickly fix this before we risk an actual conflict.
If Trump were to make it national policy to drastically increase trade with India then China would be very worried.
Anything China can produce the Indians can gear up to produce in short order...and just as cheaply.
I’d rather WalMart were full of goods from India anyway.
—They have also stated they intend to supplant the US-led world order with one that is led the China.
Thats a natural enemy any way you shake it up. They can only achieve these things by defeating the US.”
_______________
While you make good points, the fact is, China has over 1B people. We only have 350M people. It’s very likely that China will be more powerful than the US economically and militarily at some point in the future.
Are you only seeing US Military strength and China military strength as purely mutually-exclusive, when in fact, they could both be strong?
It’s possible that we could co-exist peacefully with China with them having a more powerful military.
Suppose China surpasses us in nukes, subs, ground forces, etc. in the future, do we then attack them to prevent them from becoming the most powerful country/military simply because we insist on being Number 1?? I don’t think so...
That’s just the reality of the future.
Again, I don’t view them as seeking to attack & colonize the US, so I don’t see them as a “natural enemy.” Rather, they are a competitor, but also a commercial partner.
Pershing IIs have all been destroyed. 0 in inventory even in reserves or reconfigured for civilian space use, tooling long since destroyed.
Due to political stupidity and environmental regs, there is plenty that China makes that US companies not only do not but cannot. There are no lead smelters left in the US, we have no significant rare-earths mines or processors and we cannot apply certain critical coatings in the US. Hell, we can’t even properly chrome a bumper here any more because the best solution for that is environmentally outlawed here.
How can peacefully coexist if they claim the entirety of the South China Sea as their territory?
I contend that is not possible. We cannot allow that to stand anymore than we could allow Russia to claim the entire Mediterranean Sea. Or the entire Baltic sea.
What Trump is doing is more than simply sticking his tongue out at a bully. He is signalling our major allies in the Pacific that America is going to finally stand with them after decades of betrayal and neglect.
We should not have extensive trade with any government that enslaves and murders its own people and threatens the safety of our allies.
And China sure as hell DOES profess an interest in destroying us and our economy. They just aren't overtly stating it.
Your analysis is grossly flawed, and smacks of Romney globalism.
I wish myriad people on this site would recognize just what you said—China is the immediate threat, not Russia (although Russia needs to be watched)!
Knockoff Lui’s, knockoff Rolexes, knockoff software, poisoned pet food, tainted wood products, tainted food, you know, the usual Chinese crap.
Russia is still an enemy of America and this includes a lot of their people whose minds have been poisoned by almost a century of communist indoctrination. Putin is still “Old School” Chekist, NKVD, MKVD, KGB, SFB. All just abbreviations for one of the most efficient, cruelest repressive organs in any society.
It will take another generation or two to reeducate the Russian masses, if that is possible.
Incredibly shocking. They’ve been building since the 60s.
Odd.
