Have driven in both Russia and Cairo, Egypt. Egypt is a lot worse. They line up in both directions at a stop light and then race to get back into their proper lane when the light changes. That is where I really learned defensive driving. Houston doesn’t bother me anymore.
I drive a very big pick up with very big front and back bumpers and those idiot that try to make a left hand or right hand turn from a non-turning lane have a problem. Once or twice the police have given them a ticket for improper lane turning and the cause of damage to their vehicle due to my big from bumper.

Aww dang ..... been there a few times long ago. Was good back then.
There are a lot of good places to eat down there that I’m not sure will survive the passing of the owner. Leonards, hacketts, cottons, etc.
Man I miss those Cottons burgers!
“I suspect that the time to complete projects in Texas, especially near the Gulf Coast, has to do with the type of soil, especially if there are overpasses involved. Something to do with settling time I think. Im not a civil/structural engineer.”
Naa - we had a huge expansion of Interstate 10 West of Houston. The plan was for the project to take 10 years. But the state agreed to run 4 toll lanes down the center, and that freed up new funding and allowed the project to be completed in 5 years. My question, for that, is why even bother planning for 10 years? Why not do it in 5 years in the first place, even though it may delay the start. Where I live in Houston, there is another large project in work. They need to build half a dozen or so road bridges...they’re doing it one by one - why not all at once? Should cost the same for those bridges...no benefit for one at a time.
Anyway, just my gripe, I’m no traffic planner either!
For decades!
