Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer played the tough guy last week, vowing to leave a vacancy on the nation’s highest court unless President-elect Donald Trump taps a judge he and his fellow Democrats like. But trash-talk is easy.
“If [Trump and his staff] don’t appoint someone who’s really good,” Schumer huffed, “we’re going to oppose them tooth and nail.”

Doubtful. R's, rightfully or not, eventually confirm every time, so allowing the filibuster on SCOTUS nominees helps tyrants more than it does the normal.
Any party that has both the house and senate should change the rules for simple majorities, period. What’s the big deal?
Makes sense to me. You’re in power, set it up so you get the most done.
Nuke the filibuster.
This is where the Trumpster needs to put a boot in Mitch McConnell’s @zz to stand up to Chucky Cheez at every turn and yield absolutely nothing that might smack of “reaching across the aisle”.
If Schumer threatens to filibuster, make him do a stand up bladder-busting all nighter his own d@mn self!
Three years ago, the Democratic Senate majority — led by Harry Reid (Nev.) — rammed through controversial rules fundamentally changing the way the Senate does business. They unleashed in November 2013 what’s called the “nuclear option” allowing senators to approve by a simple majority all presidential appointments to the executive branch and the judiciary.

Republican (52 seats)
Minority Parties:: Democrat and independents if they are liberal ; (48 seats)

Wish this was so but history shows that so many of the Republicans are pure cowards. Too many RINOs and obstructionists like NcNut and Panzy.

Chuck, just assuring US who he is. A man disliked beyond his circle of friends. He wasn’t expected to receive any of our new PRESIDENT TRUMP’s nominees with open arms. If there was no reason to totally dislike him, this should make amends and warrant change.
We can put them on record for their next re-election and go after them. The McCain’s,Graham’s the female Senator from Maine can be challenged and keep the Romney’s out. If Trump will keep his moxy he can start clearing the swamp at least. I think those that voted for him will stand with him.

In the Constitution, as written, Congress is the most powerful body (because Congress, in the system is US (House) and our States (Senate)).
Congress shamefully lay down before Obama, but that was their choice to do that.
The Senate confirmation process looms large as a problem. There are not 60 Senators who will vote for a reasonable Associate Justice. There may not be 45.
A step in the right direction would be to restore the filibuster to its proper size and shape. That means, unlimited debate (which I think is a good thing), AS LONG AS THE MINORITY CAN HOLD THE FLOOR.
This business of “announcing” a filibuster and then moving on to other business is ridiculous, and should be ended. If Schumer can talk for a week, it’s fine with me.

The only people dumb enough to believe in the “tradition of the Senate” and that the D’s were not going to repeal the filibuster entirely (because the D’s were going to take the Senate and White House in 2017) are the Republicans in Washington. Restoring the Supreme Court to its proper role by appointing one to three conservative justices is a once in a generation opportunity. The R’s dare not fumble it.
Chuckles will be singing a different tune once RB Ginsburg goes room temp, swinging it back to 4-3.
Let them filibuster and target the 25 filibustering dem Senators who are up for reelection for defeat in 2020 like never before.
