"Even he understands that this is a step with irreversible and broad significance beyond the Israeli-Palestinian conflict."
All the more reason to do it.

"Moving the embassy will have serious consequences not only for the Palestinian people, but also for the legitimacy of the entire international struggle against the occupation," The only "occupation" is the 1,400-year Muslim occupation of Jewish and Christian holy lands, of which the ARABS are the occupiers.

At the same time, Abbas said he does not believe that Trump would actually follow through with the move. Just doing the job that GW promised to do but didn't.

As we know, there has been talk about moving the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem for decades. It's about time that some administration actually does it. Hopefully, Trump will be true to his word.
As for Abbas, it's none of his business if the US embassy is moved to Jerusalem, since Jerusalem is NOT his territory and he is NOT an American. What he's doing is international racketeering with his threats.
