Hack Attack on Drudge Report A Sign of Chaos to Come
The Observer.com ^ | January 3, 2017 | Brady Dale

Posted on 01/03/2017 4:36:51 PM PST by Beautiful_Gracious_Skies

The popular right-leaning web portal, The Drudge Report, was briefly knocked offline last week. Incidents like this will only become more common until policymakers or tech companies get serious about fixing connected gadgets, also known as the internet of things (IoT).

In a since deleted post, the site’s verified @DRUDGE account on Twitter posted last week, “Is the US government attacking DRUDGE REPORT? Biggest DDoS since site’s inception. VERY suspicious routing [and timing],” as the International Business Times reported....

Traffic from the Drudge Report is gigantic. ...178 million visits in November and that almost 80 percent of that traffic was direct. ... URL directly into their browser or they have it set as the page their browser opens upon launch.

The importance of Drudge to other publishers cannot be overstated. In addition to its ability to point a firehose of traffic toward other sites, the careful curation of its founder, Matt Drudge, acts as something of a seal of approval for sites seeking the approbation of one of the very few people in American media capable of single-handedly driving the national conversation.

For those who haven’t visited, the site is overwhelmingly devoted to links to other sites. Web analytics platform Parse.ly currently estimates that 0.7 percent of all referral traffic to sites it monitors come from Drudge. That’s three times more than Reddit, just 0.1 percent behind Google News.

What is a DDoS attack? -snip-

Who hit the Drudge Report?-snip-

If we did know more about the nature of the attack, the sophistication of the adversary could indicate something about its identity.... .... That kind of sophistication indicated that it was attributable to something more sophisticated than a cyber gang, perhaps even a nation-state.

Will DDoS attacks get worse?

It looks that way, but not everyone agrees. -snip-

Didn't 0dungsh*t hand control of the Internet over to an International body? 0dungsh*t's sabotage of conservative websites and free speech in general is just another item to add to the list of 0dungsh*t's 'accomplishments'.

The left lost the election because the TRUTH about them was exposed by Wikileaks and other non-Enemedia websites. The ONLY Internet they want the American voter to see is the Internet THEY control.

Which makes the attacks now puzzling. Is it a hissy fit?

If they actually wanted to try and affect things, theses attack are weeks late.

It makes abundant sense that the administration that captures the media as it’s own propaganda arm would then seek to make war on the residual bits of media proving beyond it’s grasp.

It’s control of information.

Everyone knows all about the abuses of the Third Reich, but what of Japan..?

There was no overt LEGAL control over private mass media in Japan during WW2 —it was all INFORMAL control.

And strangely, it was TOTAL control.

And we’re seeing the beginning of that in the USA, too, now.

I can get Drudge right now, it’s disgusting though, as MeAgain Kelly’s mug is on it with the NBC story.

That woman looks like a complete hideous conceited arrogant hack with her new hair style. Oh, wait a minute, she is a hideous conceited arrogant hack.

"Traffic from the Drudge Report is gigantic. ...178 million visits in November"

Let's put that into perspective. Say that there are Drudge fans who visit the site once every day. Divide 178 million by 30 (days in a month), and you have roughly 6 million people. That's about 4% or 5% of the people who voted in the last election. My point? That even a popular conservative site like Drudge doesn't affect a large percent of the population.
