One salutary effect of the Trump victory that we observed at Christmas gatherings was that when politics came up, Trump voters were not shy about telling the Democrats present that they voted for him and why. We were pleasantly surprised at some of those revelations within our group…and equally surprised at how quickly the Democrats backed down and changed the subject. They are all for homosexuals ‘coming out”, but when conservatives do it, they are flumoxed.
Nothing about issues or policies. Just stop an individual at all costs. What if he come up with realistic plans to
* Pull all troops out of every war zone and/or decrease military spending
* Provide gov’t paid health care to the poor
* Improve inner city schools
* Train inner city police on “community policing”
* Entice companies to create jobs in poor cities
* Bring peace to Israel/Palestine
* Save pension funds that are failing all over the country
* ...
(maybe those aren’t good examples but think about things Ds say they want and not unfeasible that Trump works with them to some degree).
Do Ds still oppose/stop him? The answer is “YESSSSS!!!!!!”. The current D party will never win an election again if he succeeds where they have repeatedly promised and failed. These are not their ultimate goals. Cuba/Venezuela is their ultimate goal (but they will do it without the minor problems) and they will not achieve that without winning elections. So he cannot be allowed to succeed at anything that appeals to D voters.
Rs wanted Obama to fail AT POLICIES CONSERVATIVES HATED, which were the only things he was talking about when he won in 2008. We would have happily worked with him on policies and goals we agreed on. 2016 is totally different since Ds want Trump to fail, even on issues they support.
