dontavious-chancy

Arizona – -(Ammoland.com)- It was Saturday afternoon, the 26th of November, on Highway 138  in Georgia. The traffic was heavy after the college football game between Georgia and Georgia tech.

The game had been a nail biter.  Georgia Tech  beat Georgia 28-27 in the last 30 seconds of the game.  In the heavy traffic after the close game, emotions may have been running high.

That was when Dontavious Chancy pulled in ahead of four men in a pickup truck. Chancy said that they tried to run him off the road. All the vehicles ended up stuck in traffic near Forrester Cemetery Road. The four men approached Chancy’s vehicle, a large, late model, silver grey van. They were yelling.  Chancy said they called him a monkey, and one of them had a knife. From ajc.com:

The men got out of the truck and confronted the driver, Chapman said. One of the men swang at the driver multiple times through the car’s window. At this point, the driver got a pistol and shot the man who was trying to hit him.

Eric Levett, Rockdale County Sheriff happened to be stuck in the traffic, several cars back from the shooting. Immediately after the shooting, he left his vehicle and took control of the scene.

From wsbtv.com: >

“They began yelling, ‘this guy just shot my brother, he just shot my brother,’” Levett told Artz.

Levett said he was headed home Saturday, when he witnessed the end of the road-rage incident on Georgia 138 in Walton County.

He said he heard men yelling and then gunfire rang out seconds later.

Sounds like a righteous shoot to me. His black life mattered and he took appropriate action during and after.

I agree 100 percent. It is only because of the horrible BLM movement that people even care about the race of the participants. If you get out of your car....walk up to another car and try to hit the driver...you deserve, no, you NEED to be shot. And shot many times. What a bunch of idiots.

Race does not matter here.

Past tense of “swing”.

It has fallen out of usage in most places these days in the US.

One summer in high school in 1965, I worked as a laborer at the hospital my mom worked at.

My only co-worker that summer was a black fellow named Theodis T. Odie. I have never forgotten it because it rolled off your tongue like a melody.

A Dontavious was in the right, for once. Justified, he was in fear for his life.

But then, there’s the little matter of the “pulling in front” thing that occurred prior to the confrontation.

Dontavious isn’t exactly innocent. He provoked those guys.

If Georgia has a road rage statute, charge and convict them all, Dontavious included, and let that be the pitiful end of it.

Swang?

Becoming archaic but still used in the south, often incorrectly.

I’m from the South and I never heard it used like that. Now, ‘go sit in the swang’, sure.

What is the past tense of swing?

“I swinged it real hard. Or “I swung it real hard” ???? Spellcheck says that swinged is not a correct word and swung is correct.

“Swang” is used in the American south, particularly the Scotch-Irish areas of the Appalachian upper south. It’s not incorrect but is slipping into archaic status. It’s the simple past form rather than the past participle. It’s also commonly used in the north of England and in Scotland, unsurprisingly as that’s where it arose.

Oh, and “Scotch” is correct, too, by the way.

The borderlands of England and Scotland is certainly where my ancestors came from back around 1650. swung is not a word I use, at least not very often. But my question .........what is the passed tense of swing?

As I've been telling you, it's typically "swung," however there is regional variance with alternate correct usage, albeit verging upon archaic: "swang."

People laugh about the past participle of swim, too. Try using “swum” and see how many misinformed Mr. or Ms. English Persons try to correct you.

I heard you say that, I was just wondering what some of the alternate words were.
