Turning Point in Syria as Assad Regains All of Aleppo {hurrah!}
The New York Times ^ | 22 December 2016 | Ben Hubbard

Posted on 12/23/2016 12:15:07 AM PST by Cronos

The evacuation of civilians and fighters from the last rebel-held part of Aleppo concluded on Thursday after long delays because of frigid weather, putting all of Syria’s industrial capital back in the hands of President Bashar al-Assad’s forces for the first time since 2012.

...Tens of thousands of people have been removed from eastern Aleppo since Dec. 15. Before the last buses left on Thursday, the Red Cross said that 34,000 people had left the city, including 4,000 fighters who had left in their own vehicles the previous night.

...The seizure of all of Aleppo by Mr. Assad and his allies signals a turning point in the nearly six-year conflict.

...Throughout the conflict, Mr. Assad has characterized the rebels seeking his ouster as foreign-backed terrorists, and he hailed the retaking of Aleppo on Thursday as a blow to those forces. He also thanked the international backers who helped.

“Liberating Aleppo from terrorism is a victory not only for Syria, but also for those who really contributed to the fight against terrorism, especially Iran and Russia,” Mr. Assad said at a meeting with a visiting Iranian delegation, according to the Syrian state news service, SANA.

...The ordeal had changed his thinking about the rebel movement, and he criticized its commanders for the infighting that had long sapped their movement and for the Islamist agenda that some had adopted.

“I might stop fighting. I lost the motivation,” Mr. Nadaf said. “The goals changed — the situation on the ground changed.”

Assad is a mass murderer like his father.

Arab dictators have to kill to remain power.

Or they wind up dead like Qaddafi. The Assad regime is a ruthless totalitarian regime.

Those who oppose it disappear. They are not good guys.

visiting Iranian delegation,

Well, there is a problem. So many versions/flovirs of Jihadis. Just make Syria an Islam Free Zone and maybe, just maybe, things sill improve. Juan & Linda deeply saddened.

>Assad is a mass murderer like his father.

Arab rulers unwilling to kill their crazy Muslim jihadists don’t live long.

>Arab dictators have to kill to remain power.

See how to keep Muslims under control chapter 1.

>Or they wind up dead like Qaddafi. The Assad regime is a ruthless totalitarian regime.

Qaddafi died due to NATO airsupport.

>Those who oppose it disappear. They are not good guys.

Rulers like Assad who protect Christians are good guys in my book. We tried giving the Iraqi’s democracy and they just murdered each in huge numbers. Saddam was preferable.

No, it’s not. It cements a Russian stool pigeon in Syria. A stool pigeon who has murdered or wounded millions of his own people and displaced another 11 million, many of whom have invaded Europe and undermined security there. Putin now controls Syria and his ally and our enemy Iran, has its fingers in Syria, Yemen and Iraq, surrounding the Saudi oil fields. This allows him to further destabilize Europe by controlling much of its fossil fuel and gas.

All of this created by Obama and Hillary.

What exactly was Assad doing that made us want to supply terrorists to overthrow his government? I just never saw justification for our initial involvement. Were we acting on behalf of the muslin brotherhood? I am not sure.

It was a CIA/Soros/Hillary color revolution but unlike in Egypt he chose to fight back after they murdered around 200 cops. Most people in the west wouldn’t have heard about such things because the MSN lies to us all the time about Syria.

The situation there was complicated with several different groups opposing him. Our failure to support the rational ones strengthened Daesh.

Obama diplomacy -total madness.

“murdered or wounded millions of his own people”

They deserved it. We are talking about islamic extemists who were crucifying and raping Christians in Syria.

Russia’s been an ally of Syria for 60 years now. Europe’s destabilization happened because of leftists running their governments. We need to eliminate the left not whine about Russia or Syria.

>> Qaddafi died due to NATO airsupport.

He was cooperating. He throttled emigration from Africa to Italy. The justification for his termination is unclear to me.

He was killed because Hillary doesn’t have a penis and thus sought to prove she was just as good as a man by killing a lot of people. It’s the Cersei Lannister syndrome.

I never was sure why we were involved. I never saw justification for our early involvement.

I understood Russia coming to the defense of one of their allies.

I do know that during and after our war in Iraq, hundreds of thousands of Christians fled Iraq and went to Syria because they knew they were protected there under Assad.
