The Faithless Four of Washington State
American Thinker ^ | December 22, 2016 | Susan Stanton

On December 19th, I felt like the gladiator walking into the lion’s den as we took our seats in the gallery of the Washington State Electoral College in Olympia. Always uber-liberal, the state’s Birkenstock babes and dudes came out in force, to witness the Democratic vote. Protestors rallied and grumbled on the steps to the capitol rotunda in their show of force against Donald Trump.

As a former Democrat I find it glaringly obvious that radical identity politics doesn’t serve most mainstream Americans. The crossing over is unacceptably uncomfortable to those of us who grew up with the message of John F. Kennedy and the common cause of freedom he espoused for all Americans.

Meanwhile, inside the chamber, Secretary of State, Kim Wyman (R) stepped up to the podium, clearly feeling out of her element. Perhaps this was her first Electoral College count or her nervousness was a product of her party affiliation. Launching forward, she introduced the chairman of the electors, Julie Johnson; but as an afterthought, she quickly backed up to lead the chamber in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Johnson again took the podium and requested an elder of the Puyallup tribe give the blessing. It was a wonderful cultural moment when he honored the four directions with a flute melody, blessing the room and the body.

After the final count, eight out of twelve remained true to the Clinton camp, but four of them rammed forward an agenda against the Electoral College. Four ‘faithless electors’ took center stage to cast their votes -- three for Colin Powell, and one for Faith Spotted Eagle, organizer of the Dakota Pipeline protest.

Never good to start off with a mixed metaphor.

In my view, the state of Washington took a light view of national affairs in appointing these eight SJW nobodies as electors. They didn’t even pick serious SJW people.

Question: should we be concerned that a growing number of electors are not following the will of the people? If the populace loses faith in their electors, it could cause significant troubles down the road.

Everything is going to hell in a hand basket.

There will be no deliberations; only the final argument of kings.

The three were part of the "Hamilton Electors" who wanted Republican Electors to vote for an alternate "moderate" Republican, and in a show of solidarity would also vote for a moderate Republican.

The electoral college isn't broken. The problem lies with unstable personalities that crave gratification via the twittersphere.

The electoral process is totally controllable at the local and state level.

The states have control over electors in every respect. Each state can institute laws that can punish unfaithful electors or even eject them and replace them.

Usually the political parties select their elector slate. For the Republicans, they did well except for one state, Texas. They picked an obvious loon and a ron paul sleeper. They need to do better vetting their choices too.

I think the dims were blindsided...again...their blue wall has many fractures.

the State of Washington didn’t appoint them, the Clinton campaign (Probably with input from the Wash. Dem Party) selected them to their slate of electors.

They obviously didn’t put serious effort into it. In 2020, I suspect that both main party candidates are going to be considerably choosier about who they select as their electors.

Article II Section 1:
Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress . . .

That section is referring to the process to select which slate of electors shall cast that states electoral votes.

Currently, the legislatures of each state have turned that process over to the people. The votes cast for President by he people of the several states are actually to choose which slate of electors gets to cast their votes.

In Washington, the Clinton campaign did a poor job of picking their slate of electors. Who were then selected by the people over Trump’s slate. The same goes for Texas on the GOP side. Trump’s campaign and the Texas GOP failed to properly vet their slate of electors and got two faithless electors for their trouble.

That was an EPIC FAIL since they weren’t even GOP electors...all it did was cost HRC votes...

Since Obama is no longer on the ballot, these Virtue Signalling SJWs needed a black to vote for to prove they aren't racist.

I had not thought of that.

It’s a conspiracy. Congress will reject enough EVs so they will get to pick from the top three EV vote-getters, and unite around RINO Colin Powell. It was revealed by Zero Hedge and Gateway Pundit.

In Washington, the Clinton campaign did a poor job of picking their slate of electors.
. . . and in consequence, those electors whom they nominated for appointment by the State of Washington to vote for Clinton did not do so. The failing was by Clinton in WA, and a similar but smaller failing was by the Trump campaign in TX. But, constitutionally, those Electors were appointed by the states of WA and TX. They represent the states, not the people of the states.

The same was, and should be, true of US senators.
