Bill Clinton among electors to meet in Albany

ALBANY -- Former President Bill Clinton will headline the 29 New York electors who will meet Monday at the state Capitol to vote on the state's pick for president.
Clinton, who lives in Chappaqua, will join the electors, a slate of top state dignitaries, labor leaders and elected officials, in choosing Hillary Clinton as the state's chose for president.
It won't matter, though, because Donald Trump won more states under the Electoral College on Nov. 8, making the Republican the incoming president.
“I don’t know if it will do much good at this point," Gov. Andrew Cuomo, an elector, said about the noon vote in the state Senate chambers Monday morning in Manhattan.
"But hope springs eternal.”
States on Monday, except for Maine and Nebraska, will convene electors to cast officially cast their ballots in the Electoral College.
The candidate who gets the most votes in a state receives all of its electoral votes.
So in New York's case, that's Hillary Clinton -- who beat Trump 58 percent to 37 percent in their home state. There are protests in some states to oppose the selection of Trump in states where he won, with electors facing pressure from some to vote for another candidate.
In New York, protesters gathered in the frigid cold outside the Capitol, speaking out against Trump's presidency.
New York is tied with Florida for the third most electoral votes in the nation, behind California and Texas.
The number of electors is the total of each state's two U.S. senators and its members of Congress, which in New York is 27.
The electors meet in their respective states 41 days after the election, and they cast a ballot for president and a second for vice president.
New York electors include Clinton, Cuomo, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren and Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown.

“but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector.”
Somehow, I suspect that an ex president, still collecting a federal pension, would not qualify to be an elector, in the founder’s eyes.
I wonder if any Democrat electors in New York are just your average Joe’s or are they all “celebrities” within the party.
