There’s 3 states that have that all party primary, CA, LA & WA. Although in LA, that often results in Republican vs. Republican in the runoffs, in CA, it has often shut out Republicans so you end up with appalling situations in the Senate race where you had a Stalinist racist Dem vs. a Marxist racist Dem. I know in WA, it generally ends up with one of each party (with some exceptions - although in cases where you have a runoff between a RINO and a Conservative, the former tends to win with Dem help).

I think this process should be ended altogether because it potentially denies the parties the right to compete in the general election. Where was the right of CA Republicans to duly choose THEIR nominee in the Senate race ?

I had no idea that Louisiana had all party primaries.

I thought this was an exclusively Left wing power play.

From memory, six of California's U.S. House seats were elected in Dem versus Dem elections in 2016.

California's U.S. Senate race was Black versus Hispanic, too.

Since Hispanics significantly outnumber Blacks in California, that means that white California Democrats provided the Black candidate, Kamala Harris, with her majority vote.

Looks like we will need a new word for a new kind of white discrimination!

Yes, LA’s “Jungle Primary” which is held at the same time as the Nov. general election, has been in place since 1977. If no one gets 50%, the runoff is then held in December (hence why those 3 races, 1 for Senator and 2 for U.S. House were held back on the 10th).

To a degree, it has probably benefitted the GOP more. It used to be that the Dems would have a divided field of candidates and the GOP would have one serious nominee. What would then happen is that you might have one Black Dem nominee and several White Dems, and the Black Dem narrowly gets in 1st place (but certainly well below 50%). In a regular primary, that Black Dem might probably lose to the 2nd place White Dem in a runoff. Instead, you have a White Republican grab the support of the White Dems and the vote falls along racial lines. That was how Republican Mike Foster won his two races for Governor in 1995 and 1999.

However, now it’s the GOP that has a much wider field of candidates with often just one serious Democrat. That division on the GOP side in 2015 ended up costing Sen. David Vitter the Governorship, with the RINOs supporting the Democrat (who pretended to be a centrist or even a “Conservative”, which he isn’t). One of the central RINO backstabbing weasels who backed the Democrat, Scott Angelle, tried to sneak into a House seat back on the 10th, but was soundly defeated by a Conservative Republican.

Thanks for the excellent Louisiana analysis.

That clears up the mystery of their December elections, which I never understood before.
