Rex Tillerson oversaw a major shift on climate change as chairman and CEO of Exxon Mobil Corp. as the nations largest oil company accepted the scientific consensus that humans are contributing to a warming planet.
Tillerson, whom President-elect Donald Trump this week tapped to be his secretary of State, took charge as Exxon Mobil's top executive in 2006.
ADVERTISEMENT Just a year later, Exxon shifted from its public position of doubting climate change to declaring that there is no question that human activity was the source of carbon dioxide emissions contributing to the phenomenon.

The substantial argument has always been about the magnitude, though even then there arise questions about margins of error.
Lots of corps did this to fend off the looters.
I hear that if a concern troll decides to
he ends up feeling a bit better right off the bat.
All oil CEOs had to hide their true feelings and say things that helped their companies avoid persecution by Obama.
A close contact in Exxon-Mobil tells me Tillerson is an unabashed globalist. I have no reason to doubt it.
Obama admin was moving towards putting “climate deniers” in frickin jail!
Good point. But the liberals have taken this issue and run with it, and put us in a position of being anti science and all that, if we question their orthodoxy.
And the liberals never discuss how there has been climate change for eons. We have had numerous ice ages in earth’s history. During the last ice ageChicago was buried under a mile of ice. How did all that ice melt, if not for global warming???
He will take whatever course TRUMP tells him to take..thats his job as Secretary of State...
Tillerson nonetheless disagrees with environmentalists views that fighting climate change means using less fossil fuels. Instead, Exxon looks at solutions like replacing coal with natural gas which the company produces and adapting to the effects of a changing world.

Was Obama POTUS in 2007? Tillerson is an amoral crony globalist.
The appropriate debate isnt on whether climate is changing, but rather should be on what we should be doing about it, then-spokesman Kenneth Cohen said in February 2007, according to Greenwire, in a statement that underlined the companys shift.
Don’t say I didn’t tell you so.
Keep in mind what the strategy may have been here. By a huge energy company embracing “alternative” and “renewable” energy sources, this kind of takes away the wind that the environmentalists hopes to direct their way. This is to head off future protests and defuse (or confuse) the small minority of shareholders that are the most vociferous in their demands that Exxon “does something” about climate change. Once Exxon takes charge of “alternative” and “renewable” energy, and applies their vast research capabilities to either actually find something that is economically feasible, or bury it so deeply the issue dies of old age, it is taken off the table for the time being.

The Chamber of Commerce will use all their lobbying muscle to get Tillerson confirmed. Thinking conservatives should look in the mirror and ask themselves why the Chamber of Crony Globalists is so keen to get Tillerson in Trump’s cabinet.
Gee a CEO says “yeah you know because of all this global warming stuff you all believing in, you all should be buying more of my stuff (Natural Gas) and less of that nasty global warming causing coal my competitor is selling you.”
And as usual the Soro PR bots around here are clutching their pearl and having fainting fits over it.
Why would Exxon/Mobil oppose AGW? They make more money soaking the consumer for government-mandated super-greenie-tree-hugging-environmental-ethanol-infused-special-formulations of fuel than they would otherwise.
If your margin remains the same yet the product costs twice as much due to regulation, does that help or hurt the bottom line?
That’s almost exactly what I was going to say. Liek the AG’s from MA and NY.
Our MA AG fought the deposition in TX and lost. I hope the case will be her downfall.
Of course. But as Trump's SoS, Tillerson will have to publicly walk back his previously stated position on the issue.
Go along to get along
You can’t beat city hall
when government says jump, you say “how high”
That is all these companies were doing so they did not end up in endless court battles
