Rex Tillerson’s Assault on Scouting
American Thinker ^ | 12/13/2016 | Timothy Birdnow

Posted on 12/13/2016 8:13:23 AM PST by SeekAndFind

When I was a boy I swore an oath, one I take seriously to this day. It went like this:

On my honor, I will do my best

To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;

To help other people at all times;

To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.

Inherent in this oath are not one, but two moral issues – my duty to God and my oath of remaining morally straight. These are inextricably linked, and both preclude sexual immorality, among other things. My duty to God is to obey the laws set down for us by Him.

And that was what Scouting was all about. While it was not sectarian in nature, it was deeply rooted in America and the Judeo-Christian heritage that informed our culture in bygone days. Lord Robert Baden-Powell, one of the founders of the Boy Scouts, stated:

"Where does religion come in? Well, my reply is … it does not come in at all. It is already there. It is the fundamental factor underlying Scouting and Guiding."

While there is no litmus test on how one believes in God, there is that matter of duty to Him. Now, all three Abrahamic religions hold that morally straight means sexually pure, or at least sexually restrained, and all three consider homosexuality an abomination. So does the Bahá'í faith. So too Zoroastrianism. Hinduism frowns on it, as do Buddhism and Sikhism.

Unless one takes a "Progressive" view of his faith or adopts some fringe religion, homosexual activity is forbidden. If it is forbidden, how can one be "morally straight" or do one's duty to God while embracing it?

President-Elect Donald Trump recently announced he is considering Rex Tillerson to lead the State Department. Tillerson, CEO of ExxonMobil, was, among other things, the former head of the Boy Scouts of America and one of the people responsible for opening the BSA to homosexuals.

It was Tillerson who lobbied to end the "don't ask, don't tell" policy of the BSA.  According to a Dallas News story:

Tillerson was instrumental in lobbying the Scouts’ board to accept openly gay youths, said John Hammer, president of the Washington think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies, of which Tillerson is a board member.

"I can’t get into the intimacy of these conversations. But he agonized over this. He prayed on it, and ultimately he came to the conclusion the only thing that can guide him here is what’s best for the young boys,” he said. "I think he became a key leader in helping the group come to a consensus."

Imagine what’s going to happen to America now that the government is one big lobby group for Exxon.

This is one big concern I have about this guy, but I also recognize that the whole Boy Scouts issue was a red herring in some ways. That organization has been in disarray for years, as evidenced by the dramatic decline in membership since its peak in the late 1980s.

I wouldn't be surprised if it ceased to exist in my lifetime, and it really has nothing to do with Tillerson's role there.

"He prayed on it."

Who are we to question his prayers?

Even if someone did, the response would be ... hey this is a foreign policy position, nothing to do with domestic issues .... ( well, as long s he does not insist on exporting this to the Boy Scouts in other countries ).

Perhaps there are more important things to discuss.

The quickest way to undermine the Trump administration would be to try to start a witch hunt against homosexuals and their supporters. Let’s not do that.

Let’s put it this way, there is no witch hunt against homosexuals in this country.

Now let’s turn the question around, are there witch hunts against Christians, especially those business people who simply want to ran their business consistent with their faith?

I would say “yes”.

If this is true, he is a BIG MISTAKE and Trump had better talk him into withdrawing.

This would only be a problem if his administration was chock full of homos.

Courage and the US Senate? The US Senate hasn’t seen courage on the GOP side since Jessie Helms died.

My eyes roll upward. If this is about young boys, good deeds, leadership, then let all boys as they are be able to be a part. All boys however they are made.

If this is about scout leaders, let’s have them all keep any sex acts they do PRIVATE. Not interested in what they do sexually as long as they are good and moral people who will not lead the boys astray.

Most men who molest children from positions of authority are “married” to a woman, even those who molest young boys. We must not let alone any men with positions of authority over children and youth WITH said children. No unsupervised time alone with any child, no car rides, nothing. That goes for teachers, coaches, clergy, anyone.
