Pot activists roll joint in Sen. Sessions office

Marijuana legalization activists returned to the office of Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions on Thursday, successfully sneaking cannabis past a security checkpoint so they could offer it for use by the attorney general nominee or his staff.

Sessions communications director Chris Jackson deftly handled the two dozen office visitors, listening politely to stories about medical use of the plant and arguments against prohibition, but he declined to accept a sample of the drug that is increasingly legalized or decriminalized at the state level but remains illegal in the eyes of federal authorities.

Although at least two activists brought weed, with one laying some on a table and another rolling a joint as he wore a hunk on his suit jacket, Jackson did not call U.S. Capitol Police, who can and do make arrests on federal charges for bring pot onto Capitol grounds.

The permissive approach was welcomed by the activists, who recommended that Sessions commit to a similarly hands-off policy if he leads the Justice Department.

We need to adjust the definition of hemp and legalize it for its myriad uses and let the pot heads stoners sulk.

Flaunting your idiocy in front of the future Attorney General?

If it would have been me, the rule of law would have been enforced.

As a supporter of legal cannabis & someone who uses cannabis for medical reasons, I find these “activists” behavior to be unacceptable & unhelpful. Sneaking cannabis into a legal “no go zone” for cannabis is criminal behavior & does nothing to advance their cause. Trying to give that guy some cannabis was also insanely stupid.

This kind of juvenile stunt doesn’t help or advance the issue of legalizing cannabis at all, IMO.

This really demonstrates the tragedy of local governing in DC - this district belongs to the nation and such a legalization procedure should have been authorized by Congress - representing a US vote collectively.

I support legalized marijuana and consider it extremely stupid for folks to rub people’s faces in it.

Can’t we all just quietly go about enjoying or tolerating states rights and not be stirring up sheyt?

“No we don’t since the latest studies show pot smokers blood flow in brain is cut by over half...”

Bullshite. Show us a link to studies that actually say this.

There are studies that show a decrease in cranial blood flow in heavy smokers—78 to 350 joints a week = heavy smoker (way too much for me, sheesh). But nothing close to approaching “by over half”. Studies I have read show the amount of decrease depends significantly on how much cannabis is being smoked.

As with all things we can eat, drink or smoke: too much isn’t good for you.

It would be great if cannabis was taken off the schedule 1 list so real studies could be done that weren’t financed by prohibitionists or pro cannabis groups.

I concur. What these people did was stupid in the extreme. As to the rest I also agree. Leave me alone & let me grow my own medicine for my personal, private use.

Yes it is. You will also notice that FDR is standing up in the back.

One example of why the Left is in control: i.e. they are willing to act in socially unacceptable ways.

Speaking of marijuana and Alzheimer's, here's some real research on the subject:

"A preclinical study published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease found that very small doses of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a chemical found in marijuana, can slow the production of beta-amyloid proteins, thought to be a hallmark characteristic and key contributor to the progression of Alzheimer’s.

The study, published in 2014, is among others to support the effectiveness of THC in prohibiting the growth of toxic amyloid plagues. [...]

"Another study from the Salk Institute in La Jolla, California has also found that tetrahydrocannabinol and other compounds found in marijuana may reduce the amount of beta amyloid in the brain. Beta amyloid is a hallmark characteristic of Alzheimer’s and is commonly thought to cause the neurodegenerative disease. [...]

"a recent study published in The Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease has concluded that cannabis extract containing THC can relieve these symptoms of Alzheimer’s."
