A federal judge on Thursday denied a mistrial for accused white South Carolina gunman Dylann Roof, who a day earlier was described as "evil" in testimony by a survivor of the deadly June 2015 attack on a historic black church.
Lawyers for Roof, 22, argued eyewitness Felicia Sanders had offered prejudicial and improper opinion about what penalty he should face.
During her testimony on Wednesday, the first day of Roof's trial, she called the defendant "evil, evil as can be" for appearing to sit innocently through a Bible study meeting at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston before opening fire.

The only time you see the race of a shooter mentioned is if the person is white - or “white hispanic” (whatever that is).

Make the defendant’s mom look sympathetic and hope that sympathy transfers to your client.

She was quoted as saying: “He’s a good boy. He’s a nice boy. He was getting his life in order. He was going to go to college next semest-(urg)...”

The are Christians. They most likely welcome anyone.

They noticed him and, as good practicing Christians, they welcomed him. Then the subhuman POS returned their kindness by murdering as many as he could. The jury should do the biblical thing: find him guilty and sentence him to death.
He is. Why should that be grounds for a mistrial? She’s under oath.

White people are free to attend majority black churches, just like black people are free to attend majority white churches.
Aside from all the hand-wringing from Reuters.... IMO, murder is in and of itself a hate crime. It shouldn’t matter whether you’re pink or green or aquamarine.
Roof should ride the sparky for and extra turn.

I was just curious as to how, when all eyes were upon him, he could shoot so many people. I also realize that during incidents like this, time stands still and people freeze while their mind tries to understand a totally unexpected 'event'. Like people standing on the shore watching a tsunami wave come in.
