Data shows human trafficking spike in Louisville during major events
WLKY ^ | 12/6/2016 | Carolyn Callahan

A conference in Louisville taught people the signs of human trafficking and showed them it's not something that just happens in other countries. WLKY talked with survivors and the Attorney General about human and sex trafficking in Kentucky...By definition, human trafficking is the illegal movement of people, typically for the purposes of forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation...

"It's a $150 billion industry, but let's not call it an industry. Let's call it what it is: slavery," Attorney General Andy Beshear said. Beshear said human trafficking is a vastly under-reported crime.

Data shows that from Jan. 1 through Oct. 31, 2016 more than 260 people in Kentucky called the national human trafficking hotline.

Like the one that ended Tom Brookshier's announcing career?

Another government-aggravated problem. Government makes it illegal to pay for low-skilled labor what it's actually worth or to exchange sex for money, so it goes into the criminal black market.

There are a LOT of corrupt organizations involved, too:

i.e the old ACORN, PP, etc etc.

“Pizzagate” got me to thinking about the bigger picture — trafficking and money. I found hundreds of articles, all recent enough to post here, about trafficking in the US and other countries. Supply and demand. :-((

LOL! I think the last two panels apply to every political school of thought (with the appropriate change to the chest logo).

A lot of this is just BS.

Prostitution isn’t new.

Every year around the Super Bowl, there are these groups that estimate tens of thousands of sex workers arrive in the Super Bowl host town.

If the Super Bowl seats 80,000, does that mean 1 in 8 men are having sex with prostitutes during Super Bowl week? I am sure many are with wives and children. And I know a lot of men (most everyone I know) that would not have sex with prostitutes.

I’ve also read the stories of where one prostitute “victim” would have sex with 30-50 per day. The numbers just don’t add up.

Why do these groups claim so much “human trafficking?” MONEY!!! They get money from our government and private donations.

There may be some human trafficking but no where near the exaggerated numbers these money collecting groups claim. There may also be a few minors involved but I believe most are just plain old prostitutes. I’ll add that anyone using minors for such activities should be sent to jail for a very very long time.

Again, the groups that throw these wild numbers out of the sky financially benefit. Some have made good careers out of it.

It would be great if social pressure brought about a world where no man was willing to hire a prostitute even if legal. Until that day comes, government involvement in consensual adult activity is doing more harm than good. Children, who lack the capacity for meaningful consent, must of course be protected.

I am using the season of Advent to post on fb articles related to human trafficking — bring the Light of Advent [candles e.g.] and the Light of Christ, to shine on and expose the evil.

Other than prayers . . . trying to spread awareness.

Like that poor woman in CA rescued on Thanksgiving Day after being kidnapped by illegals, violated, starved, branded!

At least some people are aware of the slavery that exists in this country. Where are all the so called civil rights leaders on this?

A quibble: Are prostitutes motoring in from out of town for the Kentucky Derby self-trafficking?

That thought came to me, too. But wouldn't any free agent prostitute be attacked by the pimps or their enforcers?
