Days after an Oakland Mills High School student was disciplined for posting a racist photo online -- some students are staging a walkout this morning.

OK, I'm commenting before fully knowing the situation.

Posting because this is local to me, and I was surprised to see this story pop up when I went to open up another radio station stream.

Sounds to me like a black kid (believe me, OM is rife with black kids) posted himself and called himself a certain word. So what? This is a "threat"? And why does what he does on his own time matter or require school discipline? Why doesn't OM ever enact real discipline of REAL problems (oh believe me, it has a very, very long history!)?

Why do kids feel the need to punish the school (and predictably, the sheep principal is all for it)? Because they're not snitching every perceived "threat" to them? The n-word on a pix is hardly a "threat".

I'm sick of the premise that "n-word" is the worst thing ever.

The N-word usage is so depressingly common in the black crowd.

I think wisdom would call for admonishing the student not to do it and requiring it be taken down. That it puts people down and that they want people to think about better things. But I wouldn’t call for any real punishment for something like that. I think that past obsession with the N-word is punishment enough.
