Branstad's core appeal may be his long-standing friendship with the Chinese President Xi Jinping that spans back decades, Bloomberg noted.
The pair first met in 1985 when Xi was visiting Iowa as an agricultural official, according to Bloomberg. Since their first meeting, Branstad and Xi forged a friendship around their mutual interest in agriculture.

I doubt TEB would walk away from DM. Republicans won the Trifecta here in IA in November. There are a lot of things he’d like to do,,,, there are opportunities to ad several significant notches to his gun barrel, bedpost,,ow whatever your preference for adding notches
Branstad is 70 and not as healthy as some others the same age. I’d say it is unlikely.
Branstad as ambassador to China would indicate Trump is not going to be confrontational with China. Branstad is big on trade with China.
