The nation’s health care tab grew at the fastest rate in eight years in 2015, driven by the coverage expansion in President Barack Obama’s law and by costly prescription drugs, the government said Friday.

The growth of 5.8 percent in 2015 boosted total health care spending to $3.2 trillion. That’s an average of $9,990 per person, although the vast share of that money is spent caring for the sickest patients.

The report was disappointing news for the outgoing Obama administration, which had enjoyed a long stretch of historically low increases in health care spending, and had sought to credit its 2010 health care overhaul for taming costs.

Drug spending is the same racket as college tuition - hike the prices and the govt will blindly cover it.

” nearly 10 million had Medicaid coverage as a result of the law”

There are 13 million people on Medi-Cal (Medicaid) in the state of California alone.

Healthcare spending more than anything else has been busting the federal budget for the past 30+ years. We can’t afford it anymore.

There are going to have to be difficult cutbacks, soon. Powerful lobbies are going to have to be confronted and forced to back down, because the alternative is quickly becoming fiscally impossible.

The cowardice of our politicians since the late 1980’s in shoving these decisions aside and dumping them on future generations is truly disgusting.

“Who saw this coming?”

*Raises Hand*

ME and hundreds of thousands of others?

Repeal and replace with:

*Pre-Existing conditions compensated for and put in their own pool.

*The ability to shop across state lines for health insurance to get the best deal. The Free Market Rocks!

*Healthcare slush funds that any and ALL can contribute to via our paychecks.

*Catastrophic care plans for those of us that live our lives outdoors, are healthy, but could still get cancer or be kicked in the head by the cow. Other than that, we can pay our own way, Thank You!

When the government is involved it is only a question of how little service you can give in return for how much money. There is no market to set prices because there are no market transactions between buyers and sellers.

More like driven by millions of unemployed and illegals streaming across the border.

Medi-Cal will soon cover children in the U.S. illegally. The real battle? Getting adults insured

Ever since Obamacare took effect two years ago, many California legislators have been fighting to get health insurance for those it left out — the quarter of all immigrants in the country illegally who live within the state’s borders.

Next month, California will make a sizable dent in that effort when immigrants younger than 19 who are here without papers begin receiving free health coverage through Medi-Cal, the state’s low-income health program. State officials estimate that 170,000 residents will be eligible.

“*Healthcare slush funds that any and ALL can contribute to via our paychecks.”

Yes, pre-tax contributions, and: 1) They don't have to be spent in the year you contribute. 2) They are put into an account that accumulates, can grow with investment - like a retirement fund, and there should be no taxes on the investment income into the account. 3) The money can be used without penalty to pay for facility care. 4) Money can be taken out, without penalty, to pay for additional health insurance. 5) The money can be given as inheritance into the health care accounts of beneficiaries.

Patient bad debt is also going up because they can’t afford the Obamacare deductibles.
