Charles Barkley Not a Fan of Golden State Warriors' ‘Little Girly Basketball’
Breitbart News ^ | 2 Dec 2016 | Trent Baker

On TNT’s “Inside the NBA,” NBA legend Charles Barkley went after the Golden State Warriors, saying he does not like how they play “little girly basketball,” and he does not want their style of play in the league.

“Maybe I’m old school, but I’m never gonna like that little girly basketball where you have to outscore people,” Barkley said. “I’m biased against girl basketball. I love [UCONN Women’s Coach] Geno Auriemma, one of my favorite coaches, I love women’s basketball, but I don’t want it in the NBA.”

Last season, the Warriors followed up their championshop season by setting the NBA record for wins in a season at 73, eventually losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the championship.

I would expect no less from the “Round mound of rebound” Barkley. Who was one of my most favorite players.

Chuck makes me laugh. I’ve spent a couple of days working around him—when he was “on” and off. He was the same personality all the time.

He is a funny man. He was nice to us worker bees.

I actually like the Golden State style of basketball. It’s speedy and exciting.

The only concern I have is their heavy reliance on the outside shot by their “Slash brothers” — Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

That’s very good for the regular season but in the playoffs where every shot counts, the 3 point shot is low percentage, and a team like Cleveland where guys like Lebron James can score on the inside can definitely get the advantage with a higher percentage shot.

I think that’s what Sir Charles is talking about...

Uh, Chuck, I thought outscoring the opponent was the object of the game.

Not me. I prefer the “no harm, no foul” policy back in the 80’s and 90’s. I recently watched the 76ers vs Bulls eastern conference series between Charles vs MJ, and there were more elbows thrown than actual shots. Not this mampy pamby hoops that GSW is known for.

But he’s soft and round as a roll. A super size roll.

But to the point......

Role model controversy[edit]

Throughout his career, Barkley had been arguing that athletes should not be considered role models.[6] He stated, “A million guys can dunk a basketball in jail; should they be role models?”[42] In 1993, his argument prompted national news when he wrote the text for his “I am not a role model” Nike commercial. Dan Quayle, the former Vice President of the United States, called it a “family-values message” for Barkley’s oft-ignored call for parents and teachers to quit looking to him to “raise your kids” and instead be role models themselves.[41]

Barkley’s message sparked a great public debate about the nature of role models. He argued,

I think the media demands that athletes be role models because there’s some jealousy involved. It’s as if they say, this is a young black kid playing a game for a living and making all this money, so we’re going to make it tough on him. And what they’re really doing is telling kids to look up to someone they can’t become, because not many people can be like we are. Kids can’t be like Michael Jordan.[41]

My daughter attends Auburn and meet him in a parking lot before a basketball game. He was needling her about something she was doing and they wound up walking into the arena together before parting ways.

The announcer later welcomed Auburn legand Charles Barkley back to Auburn. She had no idea who he was and texted me asking if I knew who. She said he was the nicest guy.

The Ws toss a lot of dumb passes and Green is about the only one worth a darn on defense, unfortunately, he’ll probably get suspended eventually for kneeing a ref or scorer ,, unintentionally of course 8-].

Barkley is just doubling down on two years ago when he said a jump shooting team can never win a championship...he was very wrong.

“a jump shooting team can never win a championship”

I wish they would call the game the same way all the time. Whether it’s the first quarter or the last two minutes. Whether it’s the regular season or the playoffs.

When the refs swallow their whistles at the end of the game - because they don’t want to decide the game - they are giving the physical player an advantage over the finesse player, and deciding the game, anyway.

Barkley also routinely trashes the Spurs and the San Antonio fans return the sentiment.
