Just for the educational record.
It represents the absolute height of vanity to suggest, as some have done, that modern ‘thinkers’ understand freedom better than The Founders who created the Electoral College.
Our constitution has served us magnificently well for more than two hundred years; certainly it would be folly to amend the system to appease the wishes of a handful of disaffected Twenty-First Century Marxists.
Trump won 3,084 of them.
Clinton won 57.
There are 62 counties in New York State.
Trump won 46 of them.
Clinton won 16.
Clinton won the popular vote by approx. 1.5 million votes.
In the 5 counties that encompass NYC, (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Richmond & Queens) Clinton received well over 2 million more votes than Trump. (Clinton only won 4 of these counties; Trump won Richmond)
Therefore these 5 counties alone, more than accounted for Clinton winning the popular vote of the entire country.
These 5 counties comprise 319 square miles. The United States is comprised of 3,797,000 square miles.
When you have a country that encompasses almost 4 million square miles of territory, it would be ludicrous to even suggest that the vote of those who inhabit a mere 319 square miles should dictate the outcome of a national election.
Large, densely populated Democrat cities (NYC, Chicago, LA, etc) dont and shouldnt speak for the rest of our country.

I support the Electoral College *but* the House of Representatives should be raised from 435 members. It hasn’t grown since the 1910 Census when it used to increase every decade with population. Population in 1910 was 91 million. Today it is 307 million. The US House should have 1452 members b that ratio.
I thought Rush gave a textbook answer, but it wasn’t any more clear or any better stated than most everything that’s been said elsewhere. I don’t think this mom went back to her millennial kids with any better answsrs than she already had.
another 900 +/- possibilities for rice bowling by elected officials- or another way to look at it another 900 tailess rats in DC . you made my day for good laugh- we have enough trouble corralling the 435 present day pols in house
In those books the nation of Panem is the wealthy, decadent powerful few of the Capitol wielding absolute control over the masses spread throughout provinces far away. The elites NEVER see the reality of life for the majority of the country and they don't care to. They are insulated away inside their bubble. Not giving a damn about what they inflict on those backward rubes in the districts beyond. Or seemingly where their food, their energy REALLY comes from until it's too late.
The liberals of the northeast and the left coast should be very thankful for the Electoral College. It has probably saved their lives.
It’s time to stop engaging whiny Leftists with their crying about the popular vote, just ignore them.
Arguing that Hillary won the popular vote and should be President is like watching your team get pounded in the Super Bowl and saying they should get the Lombardi because they had more rushing yards.
You are joking. LOL.
Two things children can’t understand no matter how much it is explained: impeachment and the electoral college. They will also insist that Lincoln was a Democrat.
Thanks for posting that.
I understand your point, but education about our great country needs to continue for those who are willing to hear. Liberals do convert at times and those in the middle need to be continually informed.
Thank you for posting. I only heard a portion of this excellent tutorial, and am grateful for having the entire exchange as a permanent resource.
Is it possible or even legal to file frivolous recounts in an effort to thwart the certification process that could preclude participation in the Electoral College vote?
Excellent, clear and succinct!
Godspeed to you!
I forget where I heard this analogy but I thought it was a good one to simply explain the idea behind the electoral college:
Using the World Series as an example:
Cleveland wins game one 10-0 then the Cubs win the next 4 games by each by 1 run (1-0, 2-1, etc). The Cubs would have won 4 out of 5 games by a total of 4 runs but Cleveland scored more runs than the Cubs - so, who would be the winner of the World Series - by rule, the Cubs - they won more states (games) and therefore more votes (victories required to win).
Not bad.
Without the electoral college almost every election would have candidates only from New York, California, Texas and Florida.
If you were the best candidate from Iowa, Alaska or Indiana you wouldn’t have a chance.
