On This Day: The World Decided to Stop Saddam Hussein's Forces Marauding Around Kuwait
The Telegraph ^ | 30 NOVEMBER 2016 | DOMINIC SELWOOD

At 2.00 A.M. on 2 August 1990, Iraqi Republican Guard soldiers, special forces, regular army troops, and air force units invaded Kuwait. Despite calls for Kuwaitis to rise up and “make the aggressors taste the chalice of death”, the invading forces swiftly overran the country’s defences. Within days, Saddam Hussein announced that the Emir of Kuwait had been deposed and Kuwait was now Iraq’s nineteenth province.

Hussein’s motives went back to the Iraq-Iran war of 1980–88 in which he invaded Iran. Kuwait lent him US$ 14 billion to help finance the conflict, and Hussein became unhappy when Kuwait refused to write off the debt afterwards. Relations between the countries deteriorated, including unsubstantiated allegations that Kuwait was slant-drilling oil from the Iraqi side of the border. Most commentators assume Hussein’s motivation was financial and that he had his eyes on Kuwait’s substantial oil revenues.

The world would probably be better off if Saddam would’ve been allowed to take over Saudi Arabia. Iraq was mostly secular and Saddam just wanted money not to send terrorists all over the world. Iran would have been in check and 9/11 probably wouldn’t have happened.

And today’s situation is better how? Saudi was the home of most of the 9/11 terrorists and they finance the building of mosques in the U.S. while the building of Christian Churches and even owning Bibles is outlawed in their hellhole. None of those countries are places you’d want to live but some are worse than others...

Oh yeah, if someone secular took over Saudi Arabia, the extremists wouldn’t be angry about that?

Americans were insufficiently clamorous for war, so the CIA concocted the baby incubator lie.

They're never happy but at least when they're under the thumb of some brute dictator they're not able to export their poison to us...

You can lay the 1990 invasion of Kuwait by Saddam Nussein and all the death and destruction that followed in the next 26 years right on US Ambassador April Glaspie and the George H. W. Bush administration.

She basically gave Saddam Hussein a green light to invade Kuwait in 1990.

That led to:

Glaspie's signal to Saddam Hussein that the USA would not oppose an Iraqi invasion of Kuwait is well documented.

She claimed she was following the instructions of US Secretary of State James Baker.

You might be right. Saudi Arabia is a cancer on the world. There is literaly nothing good about it.
