A 41-year-old man has ended his life by fatal injection rather than carry on living as an alcoholic, in a radical new extension of Hollands euthanasia regime.
Mark Langedijk decided that death was the only way to escape from his addiction to drink, according to an account published by his brother.
Mr Langedijk set the date for his own death and was joking, drinking beer and eating ham and cheese sandwiches in the hours before his GP arrived at his parents home to administer fatal injections, it said.

People commit suicide every day. Kinda weird to have the State involved to make it acceptable and official.
And yet they ban euthanasia of serial murderers....
Often times suicide is the best result not only for the person, but for their family.
You may just run into a wife and children whose husband/father committed suicide, after refusing treatment for severe mental illness, who are relieved he is gone.
Some believe that Oregon has a well-functioning existing law and sneer at the potential for abuse.
The supposed safeguards dont exist in practice.
If one doctor refuses lethal drugs, the patient or family can and do, simply find another doctor.
The six months to live assertion is a guess at best and is often wildly misdiagnosed.
Nothing in Oregon law protects patients from family pressures, irrespective of motive, and probate attorneys have testified to this reality.
Patients Barbara Wagner and Randy Stroup, Oregonians with cancer, were both informed by the Oregon Health Plan that the Plan wont pay for their chemotherapy, but will pay for their assisted suicide. Though labeled a free choice, for these patients, assisted suicide is a phony form of freedom.
I wonder what his last request was...
I guess that is better than being beheaded by the religion of cut you to pieces.

I disagree with this conclusion. It takes G-d totally out of the equation. As painful as circumstances are sometimes, there is always hope as long as there is life. I believe in the sanctity of life - whether it is someone who sees no hope, or an unborn child. We are not able to see the conclusion of our life unless we end it ourselves. We do not know what choices we will have, or how our circumstances will change - what doors will open or what doors will close. I pray for those who take their lives - the consequences can lead to more tradgedy. I pray for peace in the souls of those who are thinking about suicide.
Hitler won.
Hitler was a socialist totalitarian. That is the way with leftists. They get controlling and kill. Read my tagline.
You said it; so I don't have to. That acceptance is the exact issue. We don't owe that, as a society, to any individual. In this particular decision, one is and should be on one's own.
You don’t wish people dead just because they are an inconvenience or make your life harder. If you think that you need to take a good hard look at yourself and consider what sort of person you are morally.
Its not that “I wish people dead” its that if people choose to die, it may be the best thing for them and for others.
It’s a good thing we don’t have that law or the depressed Democrats might have a permanent solution to their problems.
He’d rather be dead than dead drunk?
This morning my shoelace broke when I was getting dressed. I can’t go on. So I put in a call to Dial-a-Death. They make house calls.
