Indians are a multitude of various racial and ethnic groups.

The vast majority are racially not ‘Caucasian’.

You think of the Aryans who migrated to India millenia ago.
They were the ruling caste... ruling over a majority of dark native South Asians.

Over time the Aryans mixed with natives despite the caste system.

There are a number of light skinned Indians from the upper castes... indeed light(ening) the skin is seen as a social marker in India.

The most genuinely Aryan population in India is outside the Hindu caste system: the Zoroastrian Parsis who fled Iran during the Muslim-Arab onslaught.
However also this group has mixed with native Gujaratis (mostly Parsi men with Gujarati women) which has made the racially more akin to the locals.

While Trump's selections have predominantly been white males, the President-elect has selected three women who are children of immigrants as he assembles his administration.

Funny, I don't recall any similar hand-wringing over Obama's original cabinet selections which saw eight of the thirteen positions filled by white males. It didn't get better, either, by expanding to include the seven senior positions of Chief of Staff, OMB Director, US Trade Representative, UN Ambassador, EPA Administrator, National Security Advisor and White House Counsel because white males accounted for five of those seven additional positions. That means Obama selected white males for thirteen of his original twenty senior positions, a robust 65% white male selection rate.

I don't know what Trump's selection rate is, and I don't frankly care, but I do care that the media find fault with Trump but saw Obama's predominantly white male selections as nothing to be reported.

I hope Ben Carson takes it.

But this is why its so hard not to wonder whether this whole political thing was a publicity stunt for Carson.

Has Trump confirmed that he’s asked Dr Carson to run HUD? The stories have gone back and forth, I don’t know where it’s at right now ??

Black people in this rural area don’t care for the term African American-they like it about as much as they like person of color-like you, they just say Black and prefer that-one neighbor says African American makes her sound like an immigrant, but her ancestors came here about the same time mine did-and I don’t like to be called Mexican American-I’m an American of Latino/Hispanic ancestry-and I don’t mind being called white-obviously I am...

As a child, I was called “meskin” and spic” by a little bigot-the equivalent of the “N” word to me-I picked up a small tree branch and smacked him hard in the midriff a couple of times and dropped the “F” bomb on him-I had low idiot tolerance even at 10...

Thank you-that is informative and makes sense-I’ve never understood how it is that even with discovery after discovery by archaeologists, some people don’t get that humans of the three races on earth since Neanderthals have been mixing every time they got together, starting 10’s of thousands of years ago-there are no pure races left-or even ethnic groups, for the most part-there is even only 1 race that does not have at least 2% of Neanderthal genes-Black people-they just didn’t get to the parts of Europe and Asia where Neanderthals were, so they didn’t get in on the interbreeding there.

Race or ethnicity is an irrelevant issue that needs to be gone-liberals just use it as a tool to divide us, and we shouldn’t fall for it any more-I grew up colorblind, and I’m very glad of that.

I’m part Apache/indigenous Mexican, like all Mestizos are-and that term Mestizo was a pejorative until about 100 years ago, I’ve been told...

CNN Bigots want 3 Women of color. Try Green, Orange, & Yellow. Orange & Yellow for Trump’s hair and Green is Dems’ jealousy they cannot win.

Good for you, you and I are Americans. I don’t understand identity politics. I am proud of my heritage, and have to admit I can be hurt by some things people say about American Indians, but I am glad that I live in this country and that I had the opportunity to succeed. All my life people told me I should apply for benefits but I never did, I said that what is in the past is in the past and we have equal opportunity.

No but the article states that the women are an exception to Trump’s otherwise white male cabinet.

That's true. And if you don't count the hundreds of non-whites and females among Trump's employees, his employees are all-white and male!

I agree, an it's not pedantic at all.

The author must have an ulterior motive to label them as "colored". If the intent was literal, all 3 are lighter complexioned than quite a few southern Europeans.
