WASHINGTON — President-elect Donald J. Trump has selected Representative Tom Price, a six-term Republican congressman from Georgia who has led opposition to the Affordable Care Act, to be secretary of health and human services, according to a transition team official.
Mr. Price, an orthopedic surgeon, has been a severe critic of the health law, saying it interferes with the ability of patients and doctors to make medical decisions.
And he says that events have borne out his warnings.
“Premiums have gone up, not down,” Mr. Price said recently. “Many Americans lost the health coverage they were told time and time again by the president that they could keep. Choices are fewer.”
An announcement of Mr. Price’s appointment is expected as soon as Tuesday, according to the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the announcement had not been released.
Some Republicans have attacked the Affordable Care Act without proposing an alternative. Mr. Price, by contrast, has introduced bills offering a detailed, comprehensive replacement plan in every Congress since 2009, when Democrats started work on the legislation.

Dr. Price has had an Obamacare alternative ready to go for a long time, probably since before Obamacare.

Oh, he’s good. I hope he makes sure tort reform (e.g., loser pays) and malpractice reform are included in the bundle of changes to replace Obamacare.

I don’t know him but there is no mor important job in our history. I admire him for Donald’s confidence and for his gravitas. I have proposed a solution. . I think it is the only solution. It is the VA option for everyone. If you want a number in line — go Government option. Otherwise work hard and go PRIVATE FREE MARKET!! No . I do not want people dieing in the street — You select— It is there if you need it. It is as good as we fund it!!I say fund it well with salaried Doctors!! Bulk buying and a lot of love. But if you want to have your freedom— HAVE IT!!
where do these leaks come from? Cant Trump rein in his circle? It’s like the Bush years where someone/ some people were talking to the NYT almost daily spilling the beans on secret stuff.
Over half the states have enacted some sort of tort reform or malpractice caps. There is no evidence that it resulted in lowered health care premiums in any state that enacted it.
Currently HHS has a $1T annual budget mostly due to Obamacare. But it explains why Trump doesnt want Ben anywhere near that type of money. Price is a solid pick. If you have to go the political route here, Price is about the best one can do. Now, hopefully Trump doesnt let Romney anywhere near the sandbox.

The NYT is truly hopeless. In the same sentence they describe Price as an orthopedic surgeon, they refer to him as MR. Price. Uhmmm...doesn’t his being a surgeon make him a DR.?
