“CA is a net contributor to the federal government.”

Do you have anything that backs up that statement? The last report I read indicated CA sucks up over 30% of the entire fedgov subsidy budget. CA is the most populous state, but they don’t represent 30% of the population. Seems to me the rest of the country is supporting thier useless socialist utopia.

There is definitely leverage to drive a big new deal with California, and their sanctuary cities.

California is unlikely to vote for Trump in 2020 without a big shakeup, so there is little electoral downside to putting the heat on them.

The Federal budget needs cost savings - are these radicals volunteering to be a bill payer? Great!

Defund the Left! No bailouts! Enforce the law, with no exemptions for the left. Just those common sense reforms will choke off much of the excessively funded leftist overgrowth of the Obama years.

<><>Super majority Democrat in both houses of the legislature

<><>The SacroRats will do whatever they want, IMHO.

There is no downside. They have less money to waste. Seems like a good thing for me.

it’s much easier to defund - a stroke of a pen and a few keystrokes

the law allowing this has been in place since 1996, signed by then President Bill Clinton

oh the irony

Wait a sec...I thought we were all for states rights and federalism. The last thing we need is a federal police force moving into cities and arresting chiefs of police, mayors, city councils, etc.

Let’s follow federalism principles...ZERO federal funding for anything but the work of the federal government. ZERO of our federal tax money flows back to the states. Let the states figure out their own budgets.

Can’t wait until we get to the part where we claw back all the ill-gotten gains that have accrued to supporters of enemy invasion.

Why the assumption that bankruptcy is a bad thing?

It is a do over. Cities and Counties have done it and survived.

NOTHING CHANGES UNTIL THE CASH FLOW STOP. Let it stop.

And lets hope he follows through and holds funds against sanctuary states and cities until they change their ways.

as a residentof Commiefornia I am appalled at sanctuary cities and look forward to them being crushed along with the politicians who sold out our laws for their own benefit or purposes. Defunding will cause a whole lot of economic problems but they will just be different from the economic problems we currently have paying for illegals. Its time for the pendulum to swing back to law and order

Show no mercy President Trump. This is the opportunity to break the leftist cabal by showing that their views lead to both moral and fiscal bankruptcy. Do not relent until they abandon their unlawful and treasonous conduct. Keep your heel on their necks until they yell Uncle Donald.

Trump pulls funding. CA faces economic reality. Not only do they give up sanctuary status, they start actively working with ICE to deport. In 8 years CA goes red again.

Win-win.

Not giving Federal funds to these “sanctuary cities” would leave the Government enough money to build the wall and several new battleships—and pay for more cops! As the cities start to go bankrupt—the people may wake up to the reality of their feel good liberal policies.

Surprisingly, according to the map below, California doesn't lead the pack as I first thought:

Source. (go there for an interactive version - quite revealing as to the numbers re: lack of enforcement)

A lotta wailing and gnashing gonna happen if Trump follows through.
