Bourbon Street, New Orleans Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 9 Hurt: Police
NBC ^ | November 27, 2016

Ten people were shot, one of them fatally, in the crowded heart of New Orleans' French Quarter early Sunday, police said. Shots were fired at around 1:30 a.m. on the famous Bourbon Street at its intersection with Iberville Street, one block from Canal Street. Thirty police officers were already in the same block as part of extra patrols following the earlier Bayou Classic college football game and were able to respond quickly, Superintendent Michael Harrison told NBC station WDSU.

"Shots rang out, we responded," he said, adding it was not clear what triggered the incident. Ten victims aged between 20 and 37 were shot, including two women and eight men "one of whom has expired at the hospital," Harrison said. "Our hearts go out to the deceased." Two arrests were made for illegal carrying of a firearm. "One of victims was in possession of a firearm ... another subject, who may or may not be affiliated with this event, was arrested for possession of a firearm," Harrison told WDSU, adding to eight other arrests for the same offense in the space of 24 hours. "This is the wrong place to bring firearms, we've made that clear," he added. "We are going to pursue this to the fullest extent of the law."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayou_Classic

The Bayou Classic is the annual college football game between the Grambling State University Tigers and the Southern University Jaguars, first held under that name in 1974 at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana, although the series itself actually began in 1932. Since 1990 the game has been held the final Saturday in November (i.e., the Saturday after Thanksgiving) at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Either Islamic Muslim or Mexican illegal alien gang, they do nearly all murders.

The MultiCultural exchange with Islamics or Mexican culture is terrific! Just love the murders.

Those NO bars do try to close early after black college or “Greek” events but are not allowed to. I know because I was in one several years ago and the bartender told us to get off the street - it was close to 11pm. They would have to stay open by law and suffer the violence.

it was not clear what triggered the incident.

It started when public skools criminalized Moses and Jesus. No one told them it was wrong to murder people. Ice Cube and Doggy Doo have been telling them all day and night it's a good thing.

One of my favorite cities. I do always avoid Bourbon Street though. Plenty of great restaurants and bars around it. And the best coffee!

Grambling-Southern game. Often brings in a very bad element.

Any hotelier will tell you that this is the worst weekend of the year for them. Hotel rooms are systematically destroyed, excessive violence, etc. Likewise restaurant owners and wait staff hate this weekend. Walkoffs, no tips, behaviour about as you’d expect.

Really good restaurants are all over Magazine St. and starting to open up on N. Carrollton, where you can avoid the French Quarter.

Yup. Mrs. Abb & I have been going to NO the past several years for the restaurants and museums. We go in the spring, after Mardi Gras, but before the temps get oppressive. Thanksgiving week would be good weather, but the Bayou Classic week has been like this for years.

Grambling is about a dozen miles down Interstate 20 from where I live in Ruston, LA. Nothing but a sinkhole into which taxpayer money is poured.

Sigh,

Realize I’ve been away too long. Funny how when murders happen in Chicago or Detroit, the thread fills up with Chicago and Detroit bashers. This thread so far has several NO boosters. What a city, unlike any other I’ve ever been to. More than its share of troubles, but what a city. Just looked on Google - glad to see that Mandina’s and Tip’s are still going.

Only one dead, ten wounded? After the Bayou Classic? I’m surprised.

I used to live just off of N. Carrollton, a block from the streetcar line. I used to work at a bar at the “turn” of St. Charles and Carrollton called Cooter Brown’s. But we’re talking almost 40 years ago.
