Excellent question/point. Even if “they” invent a perpetual motion clean energy machine, we here in the U.S. will be able to buy the technology once it is proven, won't we? Or are we to adopt the xenophobic perspective that “they”, in other parts of the world, will get clean energy first and then hatefully refuse to share it with the U.S. That's not a very nice way to portray the intentions our international neighbors.
