A ‘Good Samaritan’ saw a deputy being attacked by a Florida man so he fatally shot the assailant
Washington Post ^ | Nov. 16, 2016 | Samantha Schmidt

When the man saw a patrol car parked on the exit ramp of a Florida interstate, he witnessed a scene too troubling to ignore: a sheriff deputy being slammed to the ground and beaten by a man in plain clothes.

The passerby, whom the Lee County Sheriff’s Office is now calling a “Good Samaritan,” rushed to the two men, telling the attacker he would shoot him if he refused to stop beating the deputy.

The attacker, later identified as 53-year-old Edward Strother, continued to pin down the deputy and attack him, and the deputy struggled to keep his weapon away from him. When the attacker failed to comply to his warning, the passerby shot him three times, killing him, the News-Press reported.

The deputy, a 12-year veteran named Dean Bardes, was treated for his injuries and later released from the hospital.

Mike Scott, the Lee County sheriff, commended and thanked the man “who engaged the crazed assailant and stopped the imminent threat of great bodily harm or death to our deputy,” NBC-2 reported. He did not identify the man, however.

Excellent! If more people could legally carry weapons, we would see more of this and fewer criminals.

If more people actually read FR, this wouldn’t be the ninth time this story was posted.

;-)

Yeah, but then I wouldn’t have the good feeling from rereading the story each of those 9 times.

Better to see a good story with a happy ending nine times, than a bad one once.

Of course the “in-the-bag for Democrats” Washington Post had to include “Good Samaritan” in quotes.

Hey WaPo - can you imagine such an incident happening in DC? I think not.

I wish people would stop saying "Good Samaritan" for anyone that stops to help. The "Good Samaritan" parable in the Bible is about someone who helped his enemy and that's what the point of the parable is.

This guy that stopped to help is just a hero, not someone that overcame his feelings to help an enemy.

You may want to re-read the Bible about the Good Samaritan. The man he came upon was NOT the Samaritan’s enemy.

obviously you have not read the bible.

the good Samaritan is the story of a foreigner an out sider that stops to help someone that had been attacked by bandits and left at the side of the road. it is the story of some one that does something because it is the right thing to do. the story is there to tell us that sometimes people that do not share are belief system will behave and act better then those that claim to share the same belief.

the story is Jesus response when asked who is my neighbor.

I don’t know where you got the idea that it was about helping your enemies.

here is the actual parable. from king James bible the book of luke.

29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[c] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers

Some stories have beneficial effects and can be forgiven for appearing more than a handful of times - besides - I never go more than 3 screens back so it’s likely I would miss a lot if some didn’t get reposted - this is the first I saw this and I spent several hours on FR yesterday.
