After The Simpsons predicted Donald Trump would become president of the U.S. back in 2000, it's latest episode seemed to express their regret in being right.
In the opening credits of Sunday night's episode - the first to air since Trump's victory - Bart Simpson scowls as he writes 'Being right sucks' on a chalkboard.
The Simpsons confirmed the opening credits, which change every episode, was in fact in reference to the 'Bart to the Future' episode which aired 16 years ago.
'The Simpsons updates its 2000 prediction of a Trump Presidency... #TheSimpsons,' the show tweeted.
The first Trump reference appeared in the Bart to the Future episode, which aired on March 16, 2000, and he was later referenced in another clip called Trumptastic Voyage.

‘Being right sucks’: The Simpsons poke fun at themselves in opening credits of first episode since Trump’s election after predicting his presidency 16 years ago
Haven't watched it since at least 2001.
The Simpsons (well Lisa Simpson, anyway) correctly predicted that the Redskins would beat the Bills in Super Bowl XXVI.
It’s intergenerational.
...a long time ago.
“The Simpsons” has come full circle several times, and recycled an endless number of old gags, so if a person has not watched since 2001, not much was missed.
Fine for those to whom mindless violence and crude pranks are the height of comedy.
The artwork has definitely not gotten more sophisticated over the years.
I hope that Trump’s ego can take everyone ridiculing him and hating on him.
I believe he’s a patriot. So hopefully his patriotism will outrank his ego.
A monkey could have done that....................
The artwork is based on the drawings of Matt Groenig, whose cartoones were featured in the National Lampoon waaay back in the 70's. It's his 'style'....................
Matt Groening is a leftist punk who celebrated the death of Richard Nixon. I usually like the show, but when they infuse leftist politics into the plot, I change channels.
You can tell the Simpson kids are progressives, because they never grow up.
If it works, don't fix it!
That was another episode, when Mr. Burns had a 1000 monkeys working to type the greatest novel.
When The Simpsons first aired, I recognized the drawing style immediately, having been a ‘fan’ of his weird cartoons in the 70’s...................
The Three Stooges are STILL FUNNY!.....................
That was another episode, when Mr. Burns had a 1000 monkeys working to type the greatest novel.
Hey, hey, hey. The Bills were ROBBED. Friggin’ refs...
And again by the Cowboys the next year?.............
