[From MARCH 2, 2016] US election 2016: How Donald Trump compares to Ronald Reagan
BBC ^ | MARCH 2, 2016 | Anthony Zurcher

Donald Trump has been condemned by many on the left and some on the right as being beyond the pale, a toxic virus that exists on the fringes of the political mainstream. But where do his policy views actually fit when compared to his fellow presidential candidates - and past Republican commanders-in-chief?

I believe Donald will be even better than Reagan. Reagan screwed the pooch when he allowed that massive amnesty. That was a real kick in the teeth to the working men and women of America. While I have no love of Unions I don’t begrudge private ones like I do government Unions. Reagan jumped the gun by allowing non Union people to permanently take the Air Traffic Controller jobs and whatever other jobs at the time. The entire point of Unions is to negotiate in good faith without losing their jobs.

My hope is Donald learned from those mistakes since he was around at the time and has respect for the working folks.

Immigration, both legal and illegal, is the biggest threat facing America today IMHO. I just don’t understand why everyone can’t see that.

Booting out the air traffic controllers was no mistake at all. Not on policy and not electorally. It was even said to have made foreign governments more inclined to negotiate with Reagan as they saw how tough he could be.

Hopefully Pence is not Trump’s G.H. Bush.

I am sure if Reagan could take a time machine to the future he would have done a few things different. Wouldn’t we all.

I think Trump will be better on immigration than Reagan. That said, Reagan had a Democratic house and Senate, and Donald will be dealing with a Republican house and Senate.

Every republican that tries to negotiate with leftists in good faith makes a mistake. Amnesty was a disaster for Reagan, firing the faithless air traffic controllers was not.

Trump should know about bad faith, having spent a career on business.

Trump has put up a website www.greatagain.gov. People can leave their suggestions to make America great again.

Maybe you can suggest that President Trump deports me. You can even suggest that he deports Melania.

You are fighting he wrong fight. What a waste.

Who said Union bosses? Not me. It was the working stiffs who got screwed; the Union bosses kept their jobs.

Maybe so but the working men and women in those places got screwed for doing what they thought was right. I’m not a Union guy and would prefer to never work in a Union job again. Having said that; there’s a place for Union’s if they have good leadership. I have personally seen bad leadership attempt to force a raise during a recession. Nothing could be more stupid IMHO.

I’m sure I don’t need to explain why illegal immigration is the worst thing happening but I will explain legal immigration. When Disney world is allowed to bring in H1-B visa workers or whatever classification the gov uses for them; something is incredibly wrong when those workers get trained the take the jobs of those who trained them while the trainers are fired. Then there’s the problem of refugees. It’s a complex issue but the best scenario is safe camps in the areas of where they are from so they can immediately go to work to rebuild their cities and towns. It does no good for their best and brightest to come here when they are needed there. It strains an overburdened and in debt country’s welfare system, ours, when they set foot on American soil. It has to stop.

It’s clear the left does it for more votes and the right GOPe types do it for cheap labor for their donors. Meanwhile the American working men and women get pushed out of jobs they need. This isn’t rocket surgery; it’s basic common sense. BTW; my own mom is a legal immigrant and worked very hard to become naturalized which is why I am so against any kind of amnesty and definitely against anyone who broke into America to ever be here legally. I am willing to see those who were brought here against their will as children be given some extra consideration but they must go home to their own country first and wait just like anyone else. I know it doesn’t seem fair but the crime is on the parents. As far as splitting up families goes; no need at all. All the children can go home with the parents as they should and I hope and pray the anchor baby loophole is finally closed once and for all time.

No sir or ma’am; this is most definitely not the wrong fight - it’s the only fight to keep our country. We won’t lose America from war or open invasion; we will lose it from within by the wrong kind of immigration. Just listen to the minorities and hear what they call older white people now. Imagine what that will be like in just a few more years. I just hope the Secret Service can keep Trump alive to do what must be done to save this country. All illegals must go home. Period. The only exception I can think of would be someone in the middle of a medical issue that can’t be interrupted; then they can go home. The days of this country wanting or needing a steady flow of immigration ended decades ago. More like 60 years ago.

Legal immigration should be at least as hard as it is in most developed nation where there’s a need for their skills, they bring lots of money, and it doesn’t involve bringing anyone other than their immediate family. No aunts, uncles, grandparents of their own children, etc. They need to go through extensive medical checkups several times before they are cleared. I have a friend who has TB now thanks to immigration or some refugee he came in contact with. No way to know for sure whom.

What is your immigration status and from what country? Watch the video for a better explanation of why we cannot absorb the worlds poor. No one can nor should they even try. It hurts both nations to do so.

Green card with no conditions, which means I have been eligible for citizenship for a long time. From Spain. Trump made clear what type of immigration he wants. You can’t just throw out there such a blanket statements.
