While I understand your reasoning, and it sounds solid to me, I do not agree with taking these people.
Our nation has been absolutely flooded with illegal aliens and Islamic adherents. Even normal refugee Islamic adherents are problematic. They do not blend in to a society. They remain different and divisive.
They challenge anything Christian and lead to societal changes that mute Christians and lead to Islamic beliefs superseding Christian beliefs.
Where we used to be able to have a simple prayer before public meetings and things like that, these prayers are now deemed inappropriate because we are praying to the Christian God.
It is also a sad fact that our public schools who will not allow anything Christian within their edifices to the education gods, feel it their duty to teach Islam there.
Kids are taught Islam and are expected to act out different tenets to it in role playing exercises. It has come to our attention that kids are being asked to contemplate jihad, and think what their own jihad would feel like.
While this isn’t every school, the fact it is happening at all is a massive warning signal.
These things are very troubling to us. I want a full moratorium on any further Islamic immigration.
While I don’t necessarily feel good about having to take this approach, I still think it is fully necessary.
Agreed. No more muslim “immigrants.”
But we in America need to be sensible too. Ever since Teddy Kennedy's disastrous "reform" of our immigration system, we've been inundated with a flood of migrants who are very hard to assimilate (or who refuse to assimilate).
For our own survival we need to put a moratorium on accepting migrants who come from cultures that are extremely divergent from our own liberal Western culture.
E.g., from cultures where "honor killings" of family members are acceptable; where killing the infidel is a religious duty; where raping unaccompanied women is ok; where bizarre practices such as digging up the dead to obtain body parts for magic rituals is considered normal, etc.

Actually, I haven’t seen anything that says what religion these people are. While a lot of the refugees on Nauru and Manus are Muslim, it’s certainly not all of them.
I can’t get specific data for those on those islands, but checking the overall Australian data between 2010 and 2015, approximately 24,000 refugees to Australia were Christian versus about 31,000 Muslim. So more Muslims than other groups, but still a substantial non-Muslim group as well.
I don’t know who the US has agreed to take. I think some of those details at least are still being worked out.
