US should not provide Gülen ‘safe haven,’ says top Trump advisor (STOP THIS BS FOR FS)

The United States should not provide a safe haven for the U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen, who the Turkish government accuses of orchestrating the failed July 15 coup attempt, a top adviser to President-elect Donald Trump has said.

“The forces of radical Islam derive their ideology from radical clerics like Gülen, who is running a scam. We should not provide him safe haven,” retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn wrote for the Hill newspaper in a piece published on Nov. 8.

“In this crisis, it is imperative that we remember who our real friends are,” added Flynn, who is the former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency.

Flynn was a key national security adviser to Trump during his presidential campaign and is expected by many to be appointed to a cabinet position.

“We must begin with understanding that Turkey is vital to U.S. interests. Turkey is really our strongest ally against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria [ISIS], as well as a source of stability in the region. It provides badly needed cooperation with U.S. military operations,” he added.

Ankara accuses Gülen and his followers of organizing Turkey’s deadly coup attempt of July 15, during which parliament was bombed and soldiers attempted to assassinate Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. More than 240 civilians died during the failed attempt after Erdoğan called on citizens to take to the streets to counter the attempt.

Trump?

If he doesn't understand Erdogan?

Not good. Very bad.

Erdogan is an Islamic despot and
Gulen is a scam artist.

BOTH could be true.

WTF is Flynn’s problem — it’s Erdogan who is the Islamist. Trump needs to be cautious of Flynn’s advice; Turkey has long since ceased to be a friend of the US and the West.

Bingo. A lot of muzzies have some really messed up value systems that can function well in their societies, but are not really comprehensible to another person in another society.

As a European I ring the bell.

Erdogan is trying to make a neo Ottoman empire.

If Trump goes with him?

He throws the Kurds under the bus.

Kurds.

The only damn people except for Israel that actually have been loyal allies.

Flynn’s days are numbered. He’s a loose canon in the Manafort mold and Trump had no problem dumping him.

They’re both islamists.

Erdogan and Gulen used to be close political allies before they had a falling out, and they worked together to purge from power the Ataturk-style western-friendly Turks who did so much to bring Turkey into the modern world in the 20th century.

Soon Trump will be in position to take a closer look at our NATO “partners”. For now perhaps he has to make nice?

Gulen is a douchebag. So is Ergodan. I agree to kick them ALL out of the U.S.

“Turkey is really our strongest ally”

BS. They would not even let us use their airports to land planes when we went after Saddam Hussein. Turkey should be turned to glass along with Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Members of Trump’s team should not be commenting on foreign policy matters until they pick people for the key positions and develop well thought out positions on various issues.

See, unlike you, General Flynn is calibrated with actual information about the true situation. Erdogan was a disciple of Gülen. Erdogan wanted to make himself the Caliph of the revived Ottoman Empire, and Gülen wanted to stop him because he didn’t think it was time yet. So it is sort of a Lenin and Trotsky situation. Both are Islamist. Both are bad.

1 less Islamic preacher in the country is a good thing.

And I think we don’t need to be in involved in Turkish politics in any way right now. They are in virtual civil war.
