Americans in liberal enclaves from New York to San Francisco reacted with shock and despair on Wednesday to Republican businessman Donald Trump's defeat of Democrat Hillary Clinton, with many struggling to explain the result to their children

I’m on the coast and I’m THRILLED!! So are a lot of other Staten Islanders.
If we could become a state, with half a million people, we would.
They forgot the everyday Joe and Mary Q. American Public that has grown simply tired of the rot.
Good....we had to put up with his 8 years. We didn’t riot. Pfft to them.
Their children should be reeducated.
I can assure you, there are a LOT of us Californians who are happy as can be with the result
Lefties have a hard time with introspection.
Statan Island is a whole different world. Tonight it is quiet where I live. Not surprised. It has been a tiring 24 hours which started last night at first like a wild roller coaster ride of wondering if Mr. Trump was going to win.
Lots of red areas in CA.
Maybe your mule got tired of carrying your sorry, lazy a$$eS, while at the same time being called low-life scum and being told to shut up.
I don’t know to what degree Trump will be able to deliver on his campaign promises, but one thing is certain: his election will not initiate some sort of racist, Nazi-like, totalitarian regime of witch hunts, militias, arbitrary arrests, and purges, and those who forecast such things will be shown for the liars that they are, and will hopefully PERMANENTLY lose credibility as journalists, scholars, pundits, and politicians.
I don’t remember Reuters characterizing the Obama 2008 and 2012 victories with an article about “despair and introspection.”
These liberal enclaves may secede from the Union of the States, if they so desire, and set up their own “blue” republics, subject to whatever cockamamie rules of governance they consider compatible with their view of the world, but leave the “red” districts alone, and not try to impose their rules upon us.
No barriers would be put in the way of these republics seceding. But one separated from their “red” neighbors, a wall would be thrown up, and out-migration from these territories would be sharply restricted, only being permitted if the applicant could show that as an individual, the ways of the “red” district are entirely acceptable and that person shall faithfully abide with these rules. Those in the “red” zone that are dissatisfied with the rules, would be offered the opportunity to remove to the “blue” district of their choice, but it is strictly a one-way, one-time decision, and irreversible. Henceforth, all trade and movement between the “red” and “blue” zones would be strictly regulated, and subject to harsh penalties if the authority of these regulations is violated.
We tried the liberal experimemt. It failed horribly.
Now let the grown-ups the over
Deplorables don’t matter to them.
Gloom, despair, and agony on me
Deep, dark depression, excessive misery
If it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all
Gloom, despair, and agony on me
It seems 33% of Californians voted Trump, at least at this point in the count.
I’m in LA, and all my coworkers are horrified. One black coworker said, “Well, he’s the oldest President ever, so hopefully he’ll die in a couple months.” Made me wonder what would have happened if, the day after Obama won, I had gone to work and expressed hope that he’d die soon. How much of a horrible racist would I have been considered to be?
