The quick and easy way to posting an article with both the content and formatting: Use Firefox.

Chrome and Internet Explorer might have this feature, but I'll focus on Firefox.

  1. In your web browser, highlight the text you want -- just like if you were going to copy it and paste it.

  2. But, instead of copying it, right click and chose View Selection Source.

  3. Firefox will open a window/tab entitled DOM Source of Selection.

  4. Switch to that new tab, and you'll see that the HTML source of your selection is already highlighted.

  5. Now is the time to use "copy" to capture that text.

  6. "Paste" it into your FR posting, and preview it to be sure it turns out as you like.

  7. Make adjustments as necessary to correct any errors -- sometimes the copy doesn't quite get everything, depending on what you highlighted.

  8. Repeat as many times as necessary until you get all the text you want to post.

  9. Post!

Thanks. I’d have done it had I known how.

My only browser is Safari. Hopefully it’ll work with that. If not, I’ll download Firefox.

You're welcome. That's why I added the instructions -- to help you the next time.

My only browser is Safari. Hopefully it’ll work with that. If not, I’ll download Firefox.

Fellow Mac user here -- I just checked. Safari does have a New Text Document with Selection in the right click menu. But for me, it's just the text -- not the HTML source.

I'm still on El Capitan, and haven't upgraded to the latest yet. So, your mileage may vary.

However, I highly recommend Firefox. Install the Ghostery and Adblock Plus plugins, and your internet experience will be much better.

You're welcome!

That feature is something I discovered accidentally, so I've been telling folks about it occassionally.

By the way -- AdBlock Plus is available on Chrome and Safari, too. But, be sure to "white list" any websites where you WANT to see ads, so they get the revenue.

And I should have explained the Ghostery plugin -- it blocks tracking websites, so you can't be tracked as you browse the web.
