Washington (AFP) - The FBI has unexpectedly released documents concerning ex-president Bill Clinton's pardon of the husband of a wealthy Democratic donor, in a surprise move just days before the election in which his wife is seeking to become America's first female president.
The release of the heavily redacted 129-page report over the pardon of trader Marc Rich -- an investigation that closed in 2005 without charges -- triggered questions from Democrats already angered by the FBI's probe into hundreds of thousands of newly uncovered emails possibly linked to Hillary Clinton.
While the Rich documents were published online Monday, they received little notice until they were posted on Tuesday on a Twitter account for the Federal Bureau of Investigation's division managing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests that had had no posts since a year ago, except for a small handful released simultaneously on Sunday.
"Absent a FOIA litigation deadline, this is odd," said Hillary Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon.
"Will FBI be posting docs on Trump's housing discrimination in '70s?" he added, referring to Clinton's Republican rival Donald Trump, a billionaire real estate magnate.
The FBI said the documents were posted shortly after they were processed, as with FOIA materials requested three or more times.

I think Comey has lost control of the FBI and the Patriots who work there are getting information out to the public as fast as they can.
Pardons based on donations and payment are about as sleazy as it gets. This was never the intent of the authority to grant pardons.
It may be legal, but it still stunk to high heaven. I remember even left wing media acknowledging that it stunk.

Aside from the vote next Tuesday, I sense we’re on the cusp of something that’s at least huge-ish.
Is this an FBI/NYPD argument? So.....the FBI usurps the police, grabs the Weiner laptop, and takes the hammer to it. Case closed again.

The Clintons spent a great deal of time during Bill's two term figuring out how to sell the prerogatives of Bill's office for the highest dollar amount they could.
In fact, my personal opinion FWIW is that they thought about – and worked on – little else during their time in the White House.
They continued this practiced when they left office, when they started by pilfering as much furniture and other items as possible on their way out.
Hillary accomplished virtually nothing during her time in the Senate, and I assume this is partly because she is incompetent and unable to work with others in any sort of cooperative setting, and partly because she spent a lot of time working on funneling money into her "family foundation."
The selling of pardons in their final days in office was just part of the last act of Bill's tenure as President. The funds generated by that effort went into the general pot.
I well remember the stories that came out during Bill Clinton's first days as an ex-President of how he enjoyed keeping several million dollars in his demand accounts, where he could see the amount pop up on an ATM screen when he went to various ATM locations around New York and Westchester county.
A friend in law enforcement told me it was a mistake for the dems to attack the FBI director.

Yep. As somebody else said, these patriots within the FBI have Comey and the Clintons “by the balls”.
Comey blew off that investigation of the Clintons too. He’s been at this for a long time. But now they have something that is big enough that even Comey knows it will take him down if he doesn’t at least pretend to do right.
And I LOVE it that they say it’s just releasing FOIA information when the records were finally done being processed. lol! Who can be against (FOIA-required) government transparency?
