It's all mainly cost-cutting, to be fair. Doesn't make it any better or right, however. My wife just came home from a 2-week stint in the hospital. Family, friends, and church members maintained a virtual around-the-clock watch/visit with her, and I believe it kept the staff honest. In the first 36 hours she was there with nobody there to watch/visit, was when her care was the worst.

Also, bring your loved one's prescriptions. The hospital and/or staff will skip or outright not dispense any pre-admission prescriptions. Be sure to consult with the physician that did the procedure (not the hospitalist) beforehand though.
