Emory looking to establish regular POC-only social events

Emory University’s Campus Life Department will soon host what it hopes will become a regular social hour, but invitations will only be extended to students and staff “of color.”

DeLa Sweeney, Emory’s interim director for Multicultural Programs, sent an email to staff at the school’s Campus Life Department, inviting them to attend an upcoming social “for students, alumni, faculty, and Emory Campus Life staff of color” only.

“This event is intended to serve as an opportunity for people of color at Emory to connect with one another and strengthen relationships within and across various communities, identities, and positions in the university,” the email explains, noting that the event is the first of “what will hopefully manifest into a series of annual gatherings that create and add to the tradition of acknowledging, honoring, and celebrating the experiences, contributions, and lives of people of color at Emory.”

Emory is a private university, but it receives Federal funds. It is hard to believe it does not qualify under the Civil Rights Act of 1965 as a "public accommodation".

It is easy to imagine the outrage if Bob Jones University decided to hold a "whites only" dance "to connect with one another and strengthen relationships within and across various communities, identities, and positions in the university..."

The double standard is fully in effect in America in 2016. Those offering it are shameless, but that doesn't mean they should be spared shaming;

Please give the officials responsible for this anti-white racism a call or drop them a line. Please keep your comments as civil as Black Lives Matter protesters would keep theirs.

Most racial minorities have always self-segregated, while excoriating the general society for segregating.

Who are the true racists?

Maybe the FBI should investigate this blatant racial discrimination, then we would all know that there is Nothing to see here.

“...as they allow Whites Only events.”

Sure, as long as it’s at the back of the bus.

It’s gone full circle.

People of color = colored people

The end of Thomas Chittum's prophetic book Civil War II contains a 'countdown' list of future signs that our society is breaking down along ethnic lines, the scenario that Chittum had experienced in both Rhodesia and Yugoslavia that he foresees for America.

This event reminded me to look at his list, and see if this corresponds with any of his warning signs:

Item 1: If the racial tattooing of ethnic classifications on ID cards and other documents persists, we'll know the countdown clock is ticking. Every time you see a blank for your ethnic group on a form, think Civil War II.

Item 8: Resegregation: Watch for Africans and other minorities demanding, and often getting, separate facilities for themselves, another clear sign that they're continuing to reject co-option.

Item 9: Watch for further replacement of individual rights by group rights, group rights based on ethnic group. Empires employ this method to enlist certain favored groups in suppressing the others, and racist affirmative action is a classic example of this replacement of our rights as individuals by a race-based system of penalties and special privileges. Then the powers that be have only to pay off the leaders of these favored groups, a relatively easy task. Every time you hear the racist euphemism affirmative action, think Civil War II.

Item 13: Watch for minorities and radical whites to continue to seize control of American institutions. Our courts, schools, universities, the media, many churches, and many unions have been completely or partially taken over, and politically incorrect dissidents expelled or intimidated into silence.

Emory is an institute of higher learning. Those two deserve their own party.

Will the people of color get their own water fountains so they don’t have to drink from the same one whites use?

What amuses is that organizers are saying FU to white people. Problem is white people dont care.

White is not a color.
Black is not a color.

They are not colors because they do not have specific wavelengths of light. Black is the absence of visible light.

White is the true rainbow color. It contains all visible wavelengths of light.

If you look at the white areas of your computer screen with a magnifying glass, you will see pigments of red, green, and yellow in a triangular pattern. That’s because your eye contains three kinds of nerve cells that respond to the light wavelengths of red, blue, and green.

If you look at the black areas of your computer screen with a magnifying glass, you will not see see any of those red, green and blue dots.

I appreciate the irony of your “people of color = colored people” But technically, we don’t have any color at all. :-) Or perhaps better; We only see what our eyes perceive.

You talk like me. I could have posted that, right down to your details about tv and computer screens.

We are in agreement, 100%

But I’m just talking about the labels. ;-)

I'm sure you could have and glad that we are 100% simpatico. We do get hung up on labels to be sure. But the eye can be tricked as we all know. In this Rubik-like cube, the brown square in the middle of the top square is actually the same color as the orange square in the shaded middle of the front side of the cube. To prove it, just place the cube picture into a paint program and test the brown and orange square with the paint tool eyedropper. The orange square "looks" lighter to the eye due to the shading around it. photo color cube.png
