Did Iran Launch Missiles at US Warships?
American Thinker ^ | October 18, 2016 | Stephen Bryen and Rear Admiral Norman Saunders

A big question surrounding missile attacks against two U.S. ships ( the USS Mason and USS Ponce) is whether it was the Yemeni rebel Houthis (also known as Ansar Allah) who did it? Or, instead, did Iran carry out the attacks? A related question is what were these U.S. ships doing near the Bab el-Mandab straits in the Red Sea? The Ponce is, admittedly, an at-sea forward staging base.

Iran has been harassing U.S. ships in the Persian Gulf for some time, and on each occasion the Iranians appear to have been bolder in what looks like a naval game of chicken. So much so that most recently Iranian fast boats equipped with missiles and torpedoes literally parked in front of the U.S. destroyer Nitze, forcing it to alter course to avoid a collision. But that is not nearly as serious the as events that unfolded starting on October 1st. Early in the morning the Houthis fired a C-802 missile that hit the HSV-2 Swift, a very fast and relatively large catamaran ship originally built by Incat in Australia.

"the C-802 that hit the Swift was probably fired from a small patrol boat. That leads to the suspicion that the Iranians may have been involved, since the Iranians, not the Houthis, have patrol boats equipped with C-802 missiles. Those fast patrol boats belong to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Navy."

This is a must read article.

The Obama administration and the media have been lying about the attacks on U.S. Navy ships in the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf..

It looks like Iran has fired a missile at and hit a U.S. vessel.

When looked at in conjunction with the Iranian attacks in the Persian Gulf it appears that Iran is waging war against the U.S. and Obama is doing nothing.

Iran is in no position to have a war, why would Iran launch missiles?

Sounds very fishy.

Is this a serious question? Houhti rebels are stone age moose limbs with AK-47s. Anyone think they could operate radar? Much less fire cruise missiles.

So far, I think they have only hit a Qatari vessel.

Happened several times.

Good thing the First Moslem did not order the Navy
to give up like last time, or die like on the Cole
where the First Moslem released the murderers.

Treason is the reason, and is also the reason
nothing happened even when antiaircraft missiles
were sold by Clinton to ISIS and al Qaeda and
the “rebels” (chimeras, all).

the story at the source explains Iran’s motivations.

it all sounds quite plausible to me, including the conclusion that the US was played by the Iranians yet again.

They are not fools.

No US vessel was hit.

Iranians would never hit us. Zero just gave them $1.7B and a road to nuclear weapons green light.

I disagree. Iran is excellently positioned for a war: Bumboy Barry Benghazi is in the White House.

If you are sailing around trying to start a war...and no one covers it, does the attempt count?

Remember the Maine.
Remember the Liberty.
Remember the Gulf of Tonkin.

The US Government, picking fights since 1898.

Sounds like the phony Gulf of Tonkin bs that LBJ used to get us involved in long, deadly and expensive war.

Extremely interesting article.

actually the Swift was built by the Australians, it was then leased by the US Navy.

the lease expired and control was transferred over to the Qataris or the emiratis.

but this was a very good post.

The C-802 is comparable in size to a cruise missile, couldn’t launch from a patrol boat.

Rather than C-802 missiles supplied by Iran, they are more likely to be C-801 missiles and their launchers scavenged off three Type 021 missile boats by defectors from the former Yemen Navy.

The Houthi militia just doesn’t have the trained crews that could arm, aim and fire these missiles. More likely they are defectors loyal to former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

The C-801 is a reverse engineered Exocet. They would both be truck launched.
