Federal judge extends Florida voter registration deadline

(CNN)A federal court has extended Florida's voter registration deadline from Tuesday to 5 p.m. ET Wednesday due to Hurricane Matthew's interruption of last-minute sign-ups.

The US District Court ruling comes after the Florida Democratic Party sued, seeking an additional week due to the "strong likelihood" many of the state's voters would be "severely burdened" by the hurricane's fallout in the upcoming election.
Florida Republican Gov. Rick Scott had opposed the extension, saying last week that "people have had time to register."
In court papers, Marc Elias, who serves at the general counsel for Hillary Clinton's campaign, argued that Scott "unambiguously ordered" Florida citizens to evacuate, and now some voters have been prevented from being able to register which might decrease "the overall likelihood" that the party will be successful in helping to elect Democrats.

Laws don’t matter, state government doesn’t matter - all that matters is the will of the elites enforced by the federal courts.

It does make you wonder.
Why do we need laws or Congress, the Senate or for that matter a President if some yahoo Judge is going to write laws.

Interesting,,,

It is my understanding that the legal deadline for voter registration is determined by the Florida legislature and signed into law by the Governor. Changes to the deadline must come from the legislature, not Governor Scott. How is it possible that the Federal government, as dictated by the Federal Courts, can determine the terms under which an individual state will conduct its elections outside of the need for equal access to the polls?

Any lawyers out there that can help me out?

A person who has not registered by now doesn’t really care. They would rather wait until after the election and then complain and then some judge will issue an edict that the person be allowed to register and vote even though the election has passed.

And that is who the Democrats want to vote, the apathetic and the uninformed.

Not a lawyer but the judge should be arrested by state police for violating state election laws and overstepping his oath of office

Registering to vote is the last thing on someone’s mind who has been through a hurricane. Hand the bill for the extended hours to the federal judiciary, especially if people register then don’t vote.

Obama from August:

"The federal government doesn't run the election process. States and cities and communities all across the country, they are the ones who set up the voting systems and the voting booths

I’d like to know under what legal construct this judge purports to have the authority to re-write Florida election laws.

I thought the Constitution expressly gives the making of law around federal elections to the states.

I think the State of Florida should ask SCOTUS for an emergency hearing to determine if this judge has any legal power to abrogate Florida election laws.

Add Governors to that list. Apparently, Obama appointed Judges are all that is needed.
