Now that Hillary Clinton has at last formally withdrawn from the race for the White House, the eyes of America and the world will focus on Barack Obama and his Republican rival Senator John McCain.

For a second I was thinking, “Wait! What?” and then I noticed the date (2008).

McCain’s father drank himself to death but was a good admiral.
His grandfather compared poorly to his rival Marc Mitscher in naval aviation and had actually been relieved of duty when the Japanese surrendered.
He dropped dead of a heart attack a few days after the Japanese surrender.
I was told a story about a disaster aboard the ship his father was commanding when McCain was a pilot and mistakenly released a missle while the jet was top side killing a service man or some. It was covered up, anyone know anything about this?

That would be the Forrestal fire but McCain’s father wasn’t the captain of the ship, he was already an admiral by then.
USS Forestal, but the claim is iffy at best.
He was Mr. Hot Dog his whole career to that point, so I don’t dismiss it completely.
I’m in good company, but in all honestly, he may not have played a part in it at all. I just don’t know.

McCain was a hard partying naval aviator and a lousy pilot and ran with a fast crowd.
He was a lieutenant commander when he was shot down over Vietnam and probably would not have made commander.
His political career came about because he had no future in the navy but he could use being a POW to run for political office.

McCain made Captain after being a pow, they couldn’t wash him out after being in the Hanoi Hilton, but there was no way he was getting stars.

Then, his constant lying about MIAs to the point of passing a law that would prevent the investigation into it.
Even some of his fellow POWs considered him a GD turn coat.
