Pentagon Spends $500 Million on Fake Al-Qaeda Videos
The Clarion Projest ^ | October 5, 2016

Posted on 10/05/2016 10:06:57 AM PDT by detective

The Pentagon spent over $500 million on hiring a public relations firm to create anti-extremist and fake extremist propaganda during the American military’s campaign in Iraq, according to the Bureau of Investigative Journalism as reported by The Daily Beast.

British firm Bell Pottinger created their materials at the U.S. military base of Camp Victory. At one point, they were employing some 300 British and Iraqi staff at the cost of over $100 million per year.

Bell Pottinger was hired in 2004 to produce material for the “promotion of democratic elections” in Iraq. These materials aimed to convince the Iraqi population of the benefits of democracy and inform them about the new legal structures in place following regime change.

Were they effective? If so, probably worth it. Otherwise, no...

Remember Jihadi John, the ISIS spokesperson with the British accent who was beheading people? People were calling the videos fake.

Flashback:

Experts Doubt Authenticity of Foley Beheading Video

26 August 2014

Following an explosive report in The Times of London citing forensic experts, the establishment press around the world is now reporting that the video purporting to show the beheading of American journalist James Foley by an Islamic State (ISIS) jihadist was probably “staged.” by Alex Newman

Coincidentally, the same amount estimated to completely update and return an Iowa class battleship to service. Even worse, the USS Olympia sits in Philadelphia rotting.

The last of its type in existence, it fired the opening shots of the Spanish American war in Manila bay. It brought home the unknown soldier from WWI.
She needs 20 million for a dry dock session. We have doubled the recommended time between dry docking.

They are discussing towing to sea and sinking it because no money is available. But they waste 25 times that amount on one ignorant propaganda project.
Sickening.

Who didn’t know from the very beginning that Hollywood-quality “terrorist” promo videos, that conveniently repeatedly appeared right when the State Department needed them to, was a US government production?

As with every other thing about the GWOT, it was a full-on lie from the very beginning.

Ironman 2 was mode for 200 million dollars. You really mean to tell me some obscure propaganda videos made in support of an Iraqi election cost 500 million.....and that sounds worth it?

Nuts.

Well isnt that the common theme in these govt schemes - no analysis to show whether the program was effective or not. Granted many times success is a non-goal with our govt.

I’m disgusted. I always think I’m jaded but I can still be shocked and disgusted. I guess that is a good thing.

I'm sure all the officers and NCOs let go due to "budget cuts" during Obama's purge will take comfort in that $500 million well spent.

This article is a bit of a nothing burger. The headline says $500 mil but the article says $100 mil. And it was nationwide propaganda scheme involving far more than fake al Qaeda videos. It was an attempt to get The Iraqi people to embrace Democracy and the rule of law. Propaganda goes back thousands of years and is supposed to help garner victory. Hardly scandalous.

The fake videos were actually pretty devious. They'd make the movies then drop DVDs at places they raided. The DVDs were coded with trackers to find out where they went as supporters passed them around.

Seems like a decent war spend to me.

“the Pentagon spent at least $540 million paying Bell Pottinger for “information operations” and “psychological operations,” according to the Bureau.”

The Obama administration has failed miserably in the middle east. They are directly responsible for the increase in Muslim terrorism and the genocide against Christians.

They have spent hundreds of billions in taxpayer money funding Islamic terrorists and promoting the spread of terrorism throughout the globe.

This is just one more example of the waste, fraud, corruption and treason that have been committed by the Obama administration.

Gee, was Dan Rather serving as a consulting journalist for this project?

Seems like an audit might expose this project and those approving the expenditure.

The constant and pervasive dishonesty of our government is saddening. Lying is the hallmark of every evil government we ever faced. Now it is here.

From the article:

“From 2007 to 2011 the Pentagon spent at least $540 million paying Bell Pottinger for “information operations” and “psychological operations,” according to the Bureau.”

The majority of the money was spent during the Obama administration.

The money was wasted and the American policy in the middle east failed.

The Bush administration made bad decisions too.
