Toe to toe, dancing very close
Body breathing, almost comatose
Wall to wall, people hypnotized
And they’re stepping lightly
Hang each night, in Rapture

Back to back, sacroiliac
Spineless movement and a wild attack
Face to face, sightless solitude
And it’s finger popping
Twenty four hour shopping in Rapture

Fab Five Freddy told me everybody’s fly
D.J. spinning, I said, “My my”
Flash is fast, flash is cool
Francois, c’est pas flashe non due

And you don’t stop, sure shot
Go out to the parking lot
And you get in your car and drive real far
And you drive all night and then you see a light

And it comes right down and it lands on the ground
And out comes the man from Mars
And you try to run but he’s got a gun
And he shoots you dead and he eats your head

And then you’re in the man from Mars
You go out at night eating cars
You eat Cadillacs, Lincolns too
Mercurys and Subaru

image: http://static.urx.io/units/web/urx-unit-loader.gif

And you don’t stop, you keep on eating cars
Then when there’s no more cars you go out at night
And eat up bars, where the people meet
Face to face, dance cheek to cheek

One to one, man to man, dance toe to toe, don’t move too slow
‘Cause the man from Mars, is through with cars
He’s eating bars, yeah, wall to wall
Door to door, hall to hall, he’s gonna eat ‘em all, Rapture, be pure

Take a tour through the sewer
Don’t strain your brain
Paint a train, you’ll be singing in the rain
Said don’t stop to the punk rock

Back to back, body muscular
Spinless movement, bite the jugular
One to one, tea time technology
And a digital ardour, no sign of saviour in Rapture

Well now you see what you wanna be, just have your party on T.V
‘Cause the man from Mars won’t eat up bars where the T.V’s on
And now he’s gone, back up to space
Where he won’t have a hassle with the human race

And you hip hop, and you don’t stop
Just blast off, sure shot
‘Cause the man from Mars stopped eating cars
And eating bars, and now he only eats guitars, get up

Lesson to kids watching at home: Property rights matter. One of the reasons Haiti is such a mess is ill-defined property rights. People who need firewood, take firewood. People who need lumber, take lumber. I am told that if you fly over the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic you can see it from the air. A clear line, on one side denuded hills on the other lush forest.

South Florida is full of Haitians. Many are exceptionally talented, professional, well educated. I met a number of them when I lived there and I was so impressed. Unfortunately, their native land is so chaotic and poorly organized, it would make no sense for them to stay. Complete human capital drain is the result of the fundamental errors in Haiti.

It would seem that the only way to deal with it would be occupation, turnover to a UN operation for a decade while political reorganization (Constitutional democracy that respects property rights so investors are willing to sink money into building that place.) It is mind boggling, but a very good lesson in how fundamental property rights sets a country on the right path, or the lack thereof destines you to chaos and the lowest per capita income in the hemisphere.

Well maybe the Clinton Foundation will rush down there and save them...like they did when they had an earthquake. It ought to be an extra $50 million for Killary.

The problem is that they don’t replace the trees that are cut down for charcoal. The focus is on individual/family survival, not long term economic interest.

Look at Hispaniola on Google Earth, you can see the Haitian-DR border from space, its where the forest ends.

Your point is well taken, Clear property rights are indispensable to economic development.

However, keep the UN away. Their involvement does little to help, and may in fact make a bad situation worse.

I'm lucky, I live in the Maple Syrup capitol of the world, Shepherd, Michigan - "The Sweetest Little Town in the USA!"

Just curious- what happens to the tree stumps when they cut down a forest for the lumber?

Serious question- anyone in the industry know?

I would think they would have to grind them down into the dirt, at least. And maybe recover some of the chips for use in particle board, etc

In the northwest US, nothing. I’ve mountain biked through clearcuts. They just plant the new trees around the stumps. The stumps eventually rot away and become tree food...
