The very rich Mr. Musk has obviously spared no expense to smoke the very finest weed available. The biggest thing taking flight is his fancy.
There are too many huge issues that remain unsolved. I’ll mention just a few:
1) It takes longer than a few months to reach Mars using current propulsion technology. I believe it takes several years. Has there been a dramatic breakthrough?
2) The biological degradation of the human body during extended weightlessness.
3) Has an effective shield against cosmic rays and micrometeorites been discovered?
4) What will keep a ship full of strangers from killing each other after a few months in cramped quarters? I can barely stand a transatlantic flight! Can you imagine a stomach virus breaking out, as so often happens on cruise ships?
5) Assuming that a rocket full of passengers at last lands on Mars, where is the infrastructure that will manufacture tons of methane fuel and liquid oxygen for the return trip? There is no refinery on Mars. Where will the immense energy come from to mine and process the rocks that will be converted into fuel at the aforementioned refinery?
6) Where will you house and how will you feed a million people?
Too many assumptions. It’s a pipe dream, folks.
