These are the kinds of refugees that Europeans want to accept

Europeans play favorites when it comes to refugees — and the ones they prefer are highly skilled, vulnerable, and not Muslim, researchers say. People across 15 countries and the political spectrum are more willing to grant asylum to seekers with these traits than others. Politicians who want to shape public opinion and persuade their constituents to accept more refugees could emphasize these factors.

Researchers asked 18,000 eligible voters to look at hypothetical profiles and decide whether to grant asylum, according to a study published today in Science. These 180,000 profiles randomly varied on a few attributes, like country of origin and religion — so, for instance, maybe two profiles would be the same, except one person is from Syria and the other from Iraq. By analyzing which changes made a difference, the researchers figured out what kind of refugees people are willing to accept. The results were very consistent and showed that economic, humanitarian, and religious issues are “fundamental concerns” for Europeans, says study lead author Jens Hainmueller, a professor of political science at Stanford University.

EVERYONE WANTED TO TAKE FEWER REFUGEES Of course, the public at large is not in charge of deciding who gets asylum. But public opinion affects policy, and so these findings are important as European leaders try to figure out what to do about the largest refugee crisis since World War II. Work on refugees is pretty rare in the scientific literature. Previous research focused on attitudes toward immigration; even the work specifically on refugees looked only at whether people wanted them or not. So this study fills something of a hole in determining what kinds of nuance goes into accepting refugees.

There have been various private and gov’t studies over the past year in Germany and they generally all come to three conclusions.

1. Syrians have a higher university ratio and craftsman certification situation than most other nationalities in this immigrant group. Assad, for all the bad things that you can drum up on the guy....had put government funding into university operations and crafts, and took advantage of Russian university offerings to send some of his folks off for better education. The general number is around 40-to-50 percent of Syrians have a skill or degree to offer and it’s just language issues that be a problem.

2. Refugees from north Africa (doesn’t matter what country you talk about)....in comparison with the Syrians....are dismal on craft skills, general education, and university background. One study concluded less than 3-percent had something to offer.

3. A lot of this goes back to the birth-rate problem in Germany and the likely nature that in twenty years, the present population of 81-million will slide to 65 to 68 million. So, as much as some want to say absolutely no...in some ways, they are forced into some type of reluctant immigration path to ensure manpower exists for German industry.

What good is craftsmanship and education if one lacks the right societal values and engages in acts antithetical to society?

Why not Southern Sudanese refugees, maybe more Ukranian ones, Tibetans, you know, people who don’t hate Western values?

You have a point. A combination of excellent technical skill and wrong social value is an excellent qualification for a good Jihadi terrorist.

Way past time for “the little people”, to bad together and storm the overlords and throw them all in the moat.

Contrast what the people want with what the elites in government want: Politicians play favorites when it comes to refugees — and the ones they prefer are low-skilled, predatory, and Muslim, observation says.

Why would anyone permit a rapist to stay? Why would anyone import refugees who demand welfare? Why would anyone bring people who hate our way of life to our country? No, thank you!

If the question is....can Germany go and allow shrinkage of the population from the present 81-million to 68-million....the answer is no. Between industry issues, their pension program, and manpower for various jobs, they can’t make this type of decrease without major issues.

Just on nurses right now, there’s a national problem. They are to the point of recruiting nurses from the Philippines and putting them through a training program and later a year of German language, and then offering them long-term jobs in Germany.

They reported two months ago that in the state-region around Berlin....they had an urgent need for around 800 new and additional teachers, and they weren’t getting enough applicants for the open positions.

Here where I live....they have issues in finding enough bus drivers....so they’ve contracted out some Czech guys who come in for six months at a time while they try to keep recruiting locally for folks who will take just plain bus driver jobs.

ISIS has infiltrated that group. I don’t give a damn how many ‘skills’ they have if one out of every 200 has to be followed by the FBI (for millions of dollars a year)... AND one out of every 600 wants to kill our children.

They need to be protected in safe zones in the ME ... they should NEVER be welcomed here under these circumstances.

I know part of the problem here in USA is that lot of parents do not make their kids work in high school and during college anymore. There is a national shortage of folks to work in restaurants, hotels, housekeeping, cooks, servers, dishwashers, etc.

When we go on vacation to like Maine, Outerbanks, hotels and restaurants can’t even open because of shortage. They are forced to hire folks from Europe like Poland, Bulgaria, etc. We had two waiters from Bulgaria at restaurants when we ate dinner.

It’s just sad how kids are coddled now a days. I have a good friend who’s soon is a junior in college,, never got his drivers license, she shuttled him around everywhere until this year as he has moved on campus. He never worked a day in his life. But he did spend every night playing video games.

The pension program is the real problem - promising the output of future generations to the current ones. If it weren’t for such programs a nation could still enjoy decent per capita income even in the face of declining GNP if the population is declining concomitantly. Sadly, socialists need an ever growing population. Others do not.

I have seen that on the east coast in the past decade or two. In much of the midwest Americans still do the jobs ‘Americans are no longer doing.’
