That’ll fool ‘em every time!
Awwww MAN, you just described the early 'online' experience to a tee :)
The early Internet was "Wild Wild West" indeed, but it sure was a whole lotta fun too! I met so many people online back then who I never would've met in RL (real-life), from all over the country and in other countries ... in one of the CompuServe forums, "Skiing", there was a regular poster who was a 'Glacier Guide' in Chamonix France, and he posted the name of the bar he hung out at. A few years later I visited Chamonix on a skiing trip and popped into his bar unannounced, he was thrilled with the surprise visit from an American who he'd only known as a name on a computer monitor. We shared a few beers and stories about CompuServe that evening, and then parted ways. Although I never did take him up on his offer to ski a Mont Blanc glacier .... I was too scared of falling into a crevice where I'd never be found until the year 2525 ... /laughs
