The latest round of athlete protests during the playing of the national anthem came Wednesday against the backdrop of recent fatal shootings of black men by the police in Tulsa, Okla., and Charlotte, N.C.
Before a win-or-go-home W.N.B.A. playoff game against the Phoenix Mercury in Indianapolis on Wednesday, every Indiana Fever player knelt and linked arms as the national anthem played.
They were joined by two Mercury players, Mistie Bass and Kelsey Bone. The other Mercury players remained standing.
Even given the high stakes of the game, Fever Coach Stephanie White told her players that she had been proud to see what she characterized as an important gesture.
“I’m proud of y’all for doing that together, being in that together,” she said, according to ESPN. “That’s big. That’s big. It’s bigger than basketball, right? Bigger than basketball.”

I honestly don’t remember the last time I heard the national anthem; I haven’t been to a live sporting in decades (and am not exposed to it anywhere else).
Seeing what our country is today, the left would be surprised at how many normal “Americans” no longer get sentimental about this song.

That's a good point. The last time I heard the national anthem was in movie -- "The Rookie," I think. They played the national anthem before one of the high school baseball games in Texas.

I go to a lot of baseball games every year. Mostly Angel stadium in Anaheim Ca. (although I’m a Dodger fan) 99% of people still honor the anthem by standing and removing their caps. Very many, including myself will place their hand over their hearts as they pay tribute to the huge American flag in center field.
Most people do not support this stupid sitting during the anthem at all. This seems to be a black liberal thing. It’s BLM BS.
How’s things?
It may sound strange, but I honestly don’t remember the last time I heard it. If I bother to watch a sporting event, I’m watching after that part is over anyway.
I don’t doubt some people feel that way; I’m just not at events where the issue even arises.
