Navy SEALs infiltrating by sea are about to get more lethal.
SEALs will soon have new underwater vehicles delivering them to targets that officials say will make a huge difference during missions.
-------------------------------------------------------snip--------------------------------------------
The new vehicles, which are called dry combat submersibles, will be akin to mini-submarines, and allow SEALs to stay warmer and drier for longer, and more physically ready, as they close in on their target.
That's a huge advantage for missions that one retired SEAL who is now a congressman described as "can't fail."
"These are national command authority missions. Can't fail. So in those niche missions, it's really important we have technology that's cutting edge," said retired Navy SEAL Commander Ryan Zinke (R-Mont.).
The vehicles will also allow the SEALs to communicate before a mission, compared with "only seeing your buddy's eyes" and a glow stick for 10 hours, the SEAL joked. . . .

Put these new toys into a retro fitted nuclear sub, and the targets of the Seals will never know what hit them and how they got there and left the completed wet job.
Over the top abusive adverts at source.
Will they be equipped with tampon dispensers?
/sardonic humor
Details on these sub attachments may be recent but hard docked pods for close in SEAL deployment is not new.
My knowledge of covert ops wouldn’t fill an idiot card but, how exactly does it help the cause to have these secrets outed? Seems like it defeats the purpose letting a potential enemy anticipate our forces’ possible arsenal of moves and tactics.
Why is this an article and public knowledge? Why can’t it be a secret?
Think they were testing a couple of these off the coast here months back. Waited until dark to lower them into the water. From what I could see with the position light on top, they could really scoot along.
The important parts of the equipment are not its existence, it is the technical details. Speed, size, carrying capacity, communications capabilities (details, not generalities), aramament, etc..
At some point, members of the public will see this stuff being exercised or tested. Control what is released, and feed the media the sexy stuff, while keeping the important details classified.
Reminds me of the Hunley. Far better tech, but similar in appearance.
A high school buddy was a seal for over 30 years. When he retired about 10-12 years ago he signed up as a civilian trainer for their (at that time) two-man subs. He did it in Florida and Hawaii. Rough duty he said. He was just the guy for it, smallish, 99% muscle and 1% gristle.
Only hopefully more watertight.
I used to have a t-shirt, “Cherish the History, Solve the Mystery, Raise the Hunley!” or words to that effect.
Barry hasn’t disbanded the SEALS yet? I’m shocked.
“Barry hasnt disbanded the SEALS yet? Im shocked.”
Oh, he’s head of them, prefers 4 legged pets apparently..../SARC
Yeh, he IS that ignorant....
How many of these vessels will Mabus and Obama give to Iran?
I don’t know why, but just yesterday I was thinking of the “Hunley” and the bravery of the men who volunteered to deploy on her. Just amazing! I nearly got my claustrophobia in gear just by looking at that graphic you responded to. Yipes! I could never go into any sort of submersible, no matter how large.
