Forget the NFL, American pride still alive in college football

There’s no doubt that football has long supplanted baseball as America’s favorite game, but here in SEC country, it’s the only game. After a seemingly forever offseason following recruiting, coaching hires and practices, analyzing future matchups, and dreaming of glory for your State, er, team, the real deal is FINALLY here.

That’s right, I’m talking about COLLEGE football, of course. Oh, the NFL will always have plenty of fans, but lately what with all the protesting, sitting and knee-taking and politically-correct posturing – and the NFL’s refusal to do anything about it – those fans are becoming fewer by the minute.

Since when did it become a source of shame to be an American? Since when did it become the ‘in’ thing to mock the service and sacrifice of those who fought and died for our country.

On the other hand, there’s college football, and at least for those of us who were fortunate enough to attend the EPIC, record-breaking, 156,990 strong Battle at Bristol last Saturday night, this sport and its organizers, participants and fans remain as patriotic as ever.

Radio financial guru Dave Ramsey did the opening invocation and, controversial as it is these days, he didn’t forget to pray “in Jesus name.”

The NFL games had a dip in viewer numbers last week.
Advertising rates will be shrunk if this becomes a pattern.
Once ad rates shrink, salaries of certain crybaby millionaires may also be downsized.

“There’s no doubt that football has long supplanted baseball as America’s favorite game...”

Yup. Look around at the state of the general culture. It would be a miracle if football wasn’t bigger than all the other pro-sports combined. It fits this culture like it was made for it. Hopefully baseball will just keep trucking along under the radar gun, relatively speaking.

Sorry to take issue with this but the NCAA just pulled all its championship events scheduled for North Carolina as did the Atlantic Coast Conference. The reason. The North Carolina public bathroom law. Football will be used as a pawn as will other sports, for the advancement of the communist revolution in America. This is bare naked intimidation of basic American Christian values.
If you deviate from the leftist agenda you will be destroyed.

odd thing to say, since college football is being twisted and perverted into (a) a free farm system for the nfl, and (b) a synthetic cash machine for espn.

of course, the conferences are getting paid off, so they don’t give a damn that this thing that many people love will be an unrecognizable prostitute in just a few years.

but, hey, we got our sacred playoff, and that fixed everything.

My team, the Occidental College Tigers came up short in a shootout with Puget Sound last Saturday, 49-42. The lead changed eight times and the aggregate number of yards gained by both teams went well over 1,000. That’s much more excitement than a typical No Fun League game generates.

I LOVE COLLEGE FOOTBALL!! I was thrilled with the spread of games from end to end on Labor Day weekend. It should always be that way! :)

I read the headline and excerpt only, obviously (like most good FReepers), and was amused with the SEC mention in the headline. All I could think of was Missewery, whoops, I mean Mizzoooo, and how it’s NOT my idea of a patriotic SEC school or football program. Seems like there’s some reason for that. Hmmm...I’ll think on it...

Ugh. Should say, “SEC mention in the excerpt,” not headline.

Does this mean that all other states have accepted anyone using any bathroom/locker room regardless of his/her biology? North Carolina is really being hammered for their consideration of the vast majority. .

Those huge salaries are paid by TV revenue.

The NFL is dead to me.

Speaking of pride, here’s my response to these punks who dishonor this country with their senseless disrespect. To the tune of Lee Greenwood - God Bless the USA:

If tomorrow all my things were taxed in a country filled with strife
And I had to start again with only just my life
I’d thank my Lord and God to be living here anyway,
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom and the Rats can’t take that away.

and I’m proud to be an American in a land that still is partially free
and I won’t forgive the Democrats who scammed so much from me
and I gladly stand up to fight these Rats and make those liars pay
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee,
across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea,

From Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA,
Well, there’s pride in true American hearts,
and it’s time to resist and say:

I’m proud to be an American , who now fights to stay free.
And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up to the Rats and defend American today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.

Get this: I saw on my local news just this evening a story out of Beaumont, TX (which is nowhere near me), that some pee wee league football team all took a knee at their last game and plans to do so for the rest of the season. My kid would be jerked off that team so fast his coaches’ heads would spin. Of course, the coaches and players I could see as the camera panned the team didn’t look like a demographic that would be offended by that garbage. Shame on those coaches for using those kids to push their own social agendas and/or allowing the kids to push this nonsense (whichever the case may be).

Does Kaepernick know Francis Scott Key and all the slaves are dead? Does he know that America is way, way past oppressing black people and actually celebrates black peoples’ achievements almost as naseum? He is like a black Don Quixote looking for racial windmills to slay.

Am I being vindictive? Almost certainly, but it irks me that some spoiled rich brat is threatening one of the primary ways Americans justifiably express their patriotism.

I was so proud when I heard that former Bama player, Quinton Dial, helped the troops hold the flag during the National Anthem during the 49ers-Rams game. It’s even better that Dial plays for the 49ers and his actions had to rub the idiot Kaepernick the wrong way.

Also, former Bama standout ,Arie Kouandijo , became an U.S. citizen Tuesday. Julio Jones wore 9/11 cleats during the Falcons-Bucs game.

Bama fans are proud that, so far, some of our former players haven’t went down the same path as Kaepernick.

I LOVE College Football. Roll Tide Roll!!

These developments may be a factor in the scheduling of college football games on weekdays. For the past few years, the USC Trojans have had one home game scheduled on Thursday night, and this year, there's a Friday night game as well.

With thousands of fans descending onto the campus for the game, classes will be disturbed, and students will have difficulty finding parking, so one would expect that the university would raise Cain with the NCAA. But that won't happen.

Football and Basketball are no longer American games to me. Both leagues are overrun with thugs, malcontents, criminals and druggies. Turn on any game and all you see are heavily tattooed, creepy looking lowlifes on the field or court. Plus these people have no appriciation for how blessed they are.

I won’t watch any football or basketball, pro or college. Cant stand to look at all the scum.

Outstanding.

I, myself played football at Cal Lutheran, a conference rival of Oxy. Still love watching a good D3 football game rather than D1 or the NFL.
